The condescension here is really getting old. If Criss' "job" on the show is to disrespect the contestants, continually one-up them by reminding the audience how much better he is, and push his own agenda, then he's doing a hell of a job. Calling Jim out immediately after his performance was nothing more than grandstanding and spotlight whoring on Criss' part. You are in no position to make comments on my knowledge, or lack thereof on anything as you don't know me. The fact that you are using what a performer posts on a magic forum as your evidence says a lot about YOUR understanding of what is going on. You just let me know when Jim is getting money from people to contact their dead relatives. If you don't understand why a performer might want to get some publicity by getting under JREF's skin, then why are you even commenting on this at all? Many people have wanted to take Randi's "challenge" to prove that the challenge itself is nothing more than a bogus publicity stunt. I'm not saying I agree with it, but people can have more than one reason to challenge Randi. So keep stewing on about how nobody else "gets it". Jim is a performer who is trying unconventional ways to make a name for himself. I'd say by the state of things, he's doing a heck of a job. While I may not agree with some of Jim's methods, it's a free country (at least the last time I checked) and he's not hurting me with his publicity stunts. You obviously have concern for your fellow man so I just have to ask; what are you afraid that Jim is going to do to hurt somebody? People who don't believe in ghosts aren't going to suddenly believe in it because of Jim's performance. And people who already believe in ghosts before they see Jim's performance can't really blame Jim for those beliefs now can they? I apologize in advance if you have been personally defrauded by Jim and therefore have a personal axe to grind with him. |

I am completely stunned. I disliked Criss Angel's performing character before, but now I hate him as a person. He's taken an art that's been struggling to become mysterious in the 21st century and destroyed it while using it as a platform to fame, without caring for the art or the artists who were there before, or are there in the present. He's making sure that noone after him will have the opportunity to do anything with the art; and, once he's finished, he will have done nothing for it either.
This is what happens when you get a F%*#ing idiot musician to do magic tricks.

Alex hit it right on the head !!!!!!! When I saw the show last night I was outraged at how Criss Angel handeled it, The little weasel dosn't even need to be there, his show is crap and so is he.
When he first came out on A&E I wathched the first seson and laughed at it, because there in no way that a nomal magical performer could do half the stuff that he was doing without the aid of stooging or editing. I personaly feel that Criss should be pulled from the show and "Mind Freak" on A&E should not be done anymore do to the fact that he is making himself into the world's only magician and nobody can compare to him, he is a magic god!!!!! I THINK HE IS A "MIND FAKE" Give me a break He Is CRAP!!!!!!!! Jeff

The very fact the you say I use only comment's made in some Magic forum as evidence is not only misleading, but very irresponsible and false! Simple oversight right? No matter how much you try and spin things... It won't change the facts! I also know exactly what the deal is with James Randi & The JREF... It is very clear that you and some others do not! Tis the internet and the spewing of misinformation! |

Folks,
I can't say it enough, Criss is merely following in the foot steps of Houdini, dispelling false mediums. Why is everyone so shocked? I think Criss's request was reasonable, why didn't Jim accept Criss's challenge? Jim made the claim, Criss only made the challenge! |

Just curious...how is everyone going to feel if they believe that Mr. Callahan is going to be chosen solely because of his encounter with Criss Angel and not because of his "unusual" performance?

Blackchains, I think the problem that some people have with Criss' actions is that he targeted a performer immediately after a performance. Did Criss challenge the contestants from the first episode who alluded to the afterlife in their video introductions? Did he challenge Guy Bavli who claimed he could kill and then resurrect himself? Had Criss walked into someone's home and witnessed Jim bilking people out of hard earned money to contact their dead relatives, he would be well within his rights to challenge and debunk Jim for being a charlatan. Jim was performing a performance piece on a show that was intentionally spotlighting performers. That is what is bothering people. This was no honest attempt by Criss to save the world from charlatanism. It was a cheap ploy to *** for the camera and get more publicity outside of the show. And it worked! Well done, but I wish people would recognize it for what it was. Both Jim and Criss are very good at getting publicity.

To quote CA "blah blah blah".
Not a fitting role model for anything. He looks uneducated and he definitely sounded it on the show. If you can't articulate a sentence then don't expect me to take you seriously as an expert of anything. To those CA supporters that say he is merely doing what Houdini would have done, lets quote CA again:"B***s***" To all those that say JC claimed he was the real thing, sorry you need to go back to school too. Leave no kid behind program has failed America. JC said more than once what he did was entertainment, which I think the majority of the people understand. As has been pointed out many times by people smarter than I here, there is a differenced between entertaining and defrauding. JC defrauded no one on the show, and I've yet seen anyone come forward and say he's done it in real life. He DID entertain tho. I saw what he did as a performance, as theater, and agree in a theater setting it may have played better. |

Furthermore, lying about posts is pretty silly considering that one only has to scroll up to see what was actually said. Your poor attempt to not-so-subtly slip the word "only" into my quote was quite ridiculous. I never said that you ONLY use comments from magic forums. It was a pretty lame attempt to pigeonhole me. Accusing me of spinning things when I've only stated my opinion and been honest about it only being my opinion is again ridiculous. You, on the other hand, state to KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH JAMES RANDI AND THE JREF. Unless you are James Randi, I doubt that you know everything there is to know on the subject. And I suspect that you are not James Randi, as I would like to believe that he would have the courage to be himself here. Your incessant pretending to know what others think and believe only exposes your character, not the character of others. Seriously dude, TIS? Another attempt to be pithy overshadowed by your bad grammar and misquoting people to support your obviously tenuous position. How about you just talk about what you believe and stop failing at second-guessing others? |

I have a thought – Can Criss Angel’s immaturish challenge to Jim and Uri be likened to some skeptic approaching Criss at the local Quickie-Mart and demanding that he levitate on the spot, “Don’t give me that No B*** S*** about energy, blah blah blah, just do it! Just do it!”
I have my Members Handbook to the Academy of Magical Arts with me today. (Criss was awarded Magician of the Year from the AMA). Here is an excerpt I found interesting: Magician Members Pledge “I shall respect my fellow magician and help him whenever I can.” “I pledge myself to the advancement of the art of magic.” BTW – I do find Criss Angel’s photo on Mr. Houdini’s memorial disgraceful and offensive. |

I do agree that the photo is in poor taste and very revealing about Criss Angel. He could have included the headstone in a much more classy manner if he was truly interested in honoring Houdini. He could have done a nice over-the-shoulder shot of himself looking to Houdini's headstone and being reflective. Instead, he chose to sit on it. Does anyone else see the symbolism of him considering himself above Houdini? There's nothing wrong with confidence, but it tends to leave a bad taste in people's mouths when you shove it down their throats. Even then I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt as I was a big fan of his. Oh well.

"I saw Mr. Callahan's performance last night. If it was performed as part of his show after he had extablished his ability and credibility, it would have been more "believable." However, as it was performed as an isolated effect, his performacne was way over the top, and in a way, comical and lacking credibility. The part where Criss Angel whipped out the envelope to challenge Mr. Callahan and Uri Geller was incredibily tactless and clearly pre-arranged. Mr. Callahan's "reaction" seemed also very much pre-arranged and rehearsed. This stunt certainly did not hurt Mr. Callahan's publicity. Such is television."
Very well said, my friend. I'm in full agreement with you. |
