The jim/Criss thing was the best thing to happen to the show, and Jim.

There are a number of people upset with Criss being on this show, but the show needed someone with a Q factor to get it noticed. That guy is Criss Angel.
And being part of the show works for Criss too. The managers of Criss Angel are working on branding him. This is how you sell tickets for a live show. And whether anyone here likes what Criss is doing or how he is doing it, the plan is succeeding. Being a network show will mean that the ratings for Phenomenon will be better than MindFreak even if the NBC show tanks. It is all about raising Criss's visibility and that is exactly what he is getting out of it. This whole dust up has given Jim recognition. If he has some people behind him, he could parley this into something large. I would not be surpised if Jim has already signed with an agency after they saw the encounter. This is a great opportunity for Jim, as a lot of money is being made in TV with a paranormal theme. The contract with the show might be restrictive of the participants and what they can do in regard to management, though. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Don't count out Belgium. |

I am definitely one of the group that believes it to be extremely evil to promote the idea of REAL psychic ability. Magicians aren't liars because the audience knows that it's all a trick from the get-go, much the same as a storyteller isn't a liar, even though the story they tell may not be true. If the audience knows, then fair game. BUT- if someone promotes the idea that it's real (or even MIGHT be real), then they are doing nothing but helping the Sylvia Brownes out there who take your money to speak with dear departed cousin Ralph. |

Here's a question:
If Jim's performance was so "comical" and something on the level of what Criss claims he did when he was 14, then why would Criss feel the need to debunk him? After all, it should have been obvious to every viewer that Jim was a fake and should not have been taken seriously, n'est-ce pas? Hypothetical answer by CA: I wanted to protect those vulnerable people who don't have the knowledge of magic and the related arts, nor the sophistication that I have, blah blah blah, I'm so cool. Arnon P.S. When CA was interviewed and brought into the issue his deceased father, and a byzantine hypothetical in which Jim was told by the deceased Raymond P. Hill on 9-10 concerning 9-11, and that assuming he was a citizen Jim/J ack must have therefore been treasonous for not trying to warn the U.S. authorities, CA sank into the depths of the netherworld and could go no lower, in my opinion. |

Todd, you're right when it comes to getting promotion from this event.
Today was the first time I watched, people at my church had told me about it. After watching it, it seemed a litte contrived to me. But after seeing the interview with Kevin James, he said that they were encouraged to come back at the judges, he knew they wanted a fight and Kevin said he wasn't going to give it to them. So I personally don't trust these types of programs anyhow. As Kevin said it's all about the exposure...and Jim got the exposure, but my problem is that he claimed on this posting to be doing it for real, and if you believe that, I have some swamp land that has the fountain of youth hidden somewhere on the property to sell you...entertainment is one thing, but claiming to be able to really do it is another... and if Jim is being possessed it's not by who he thinks it is that's possessing him. |

Word on the street is that author Raymond Putnam Hill just told a medium that he is being impersonated by someone who can't spell and he's not too happy about it.

Guys, this is TV. It's SHOW/BUSINESS. There is not much that is real or not planned ahead.
On MINDFREAK, Chris was going to "duplicate" a Houdini escape from a jail. Chris's staff decided to make it harder and took his clothes while he was "cuffed". Chris was REALLY mad. You know, they work for him and decided to take a chance on losing their jobs by taking his clothes. Chris was REALLY mad. It was like when Garth Brooks is on stage and doesn't know whay the audience is going nuts. Garth is REALLY confussed. He doesn't "KNOW that Billy Joel has just walked out and is going to sing a song. Guys, we fool our audience. We tell them things thta aren't true "your card is lost in the deck, etc." Andy Kaufman pulle done of the greatest publicity stunts when he REALLY took on wrestler Jerry Lawler. It's all designed for ratings. Don't be fooled. Or, be fooled and get upset.

Disclaimer***The following comments are from the POV that this argument between Jim and Criss is real and not a ratings stunt. Obviously I have no way of knowing either way. So the comments below are from the POV that this is real.***
Wow, Criss Angel is so arrogant. Like he never makes claims that aren't true to pump up the emotional reactions to a trick he does. And who is he to challenge Uri Gellar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekD1bJLWc4o In this clip he makes it all about him. "It's good to be king." Yeah right. Even if this is all an act I just can't imagine wanting to have the world perceive me as that arrogant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9p6IF54R7E&NR=1 In the above clip Criss talks about how awful it is for this guy to be exploiting such a personal thing as contacting the dead while he is dealing with his father's death. In the next clip, isn't he exploiting his father's death to get his show mindfreak to be more emotional? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH389XIegws It just seems a bit hypocritical to do exactly what you claim offends you so much. What gives him the right to possibly ruin somebodies career on live television? Of course I say this from the POV that this isn't all a set up for ratings. Jim Callahan doesn't have the luxury of retakes and waiting for the best reactions to edit together like Criss does for his show. Criss also doesn't have to worry about some arrogant jerk calling him out and ruining his career as that would end up on the editing room floor. I feel these clips shows what kind of person Criss Angel is. Or at the very least, the character/persona he has chosen to present to the world. Definitely not the choice I would have made. If this is all just a hoax for ratings than I say it sure makes for some good television. I know I'll be watching! Just my two cents. I'm sure a lot of people won't agree. -Paul

Criss is only doing what is needed in today's entertainment industry. Show business is now heavily influenced by the bluster and attitude of the hip hop community. Criss has embraced that and brought that into his performing persona. We have spoken about this. It is a deliberate performance choice, and though it has irked many here, it has worked well for him in the mainstream.
And what he is doing is by no means new. This is from Gilbert and Sullivan: "If you wish in the world to advance, Your merits you're bound to enhance, You must stir it and stump it, And blow your own trumpet, Or, trust me, you haven't a chance!" That is more than a hundred years old and it plays like it was written only yesterday. Criss is working hard to carve out his place in the business. This is what everyone here should be doing. It is also interesting to know that Criss, Blaine, Penn & Teller and Copperfield really don't care the squabbling here. They are too busy doing the hard work required to maintain their positions in the entertainment world (and to stay out of jail.) |

They teach this stuff in kindergarten. Stop giving excuses like, "But it's fun and entertaining." or "At least he's not taking my money". Please. Jim, you crossed the line and so I'm calling you on it (again). Answer this one question directly and honestly: "Jim Callahan, do you REALLY believe that you receive messages from a dead man named Raymond?" Somehow, I doubt you'll respond to this. |

Stuart Cumberland - I respect you and I've been a loyal customer and subscriber. But supporting Jim's stance on this in the way you have has really made me wonder. You're not only dangerously close to the "line", but you seem to be proud of it.

I made a connection with Raymond Hill on live TV this Halloween.
It was real and if you don't think it is real I support your choice. But I expect you to do the same. Jim
