The quicker one moves on from the mechanical presentation of an effect, the quicker he is on his way to doing the effect as a complete action. One distinguishable only by the amazement of the magic. No such "part" should be so distinguishable in spectator retrospect.

How ever you cut it, using the ramsey extension or not, if you draw attention to it they will know. people are not as stupid as you might think, if you think thye can not figure these things out

Personally, I don't think people are "stupid" at all, that's sorta like underestimating your opponent, from a sporting take on it.
But I think you can "draw attention to it" and specs not see or even suspect what you're doing. I do it all the time. Not directly drawing any attention to the actual subtlety perse (Like - Hey, look at my Liwag Subtlety ) but where I direct their attention is right where it's at and I put it right in their face. A great part of it is confidence in what you are doing and understanding of the presentation and the specs, with all due respect. Also, I don't present magic as a puzzle to be "figured out." If I have been successful in my demonstration, then I simply leave people amazed and they accept that. Did it a few times today, left them speechless.

The fact of the matter is if your trying to use a subtlety as a display your going to get caught.
where did that happen at btw mb. |

I understand where MB is coming from on the subject of subtleties. When doing the "Crimp Change" routine you put a subtlety right in the spectators face and if done properly, they have no clue.....

1 Coin Flurry (the trick you performed as I perceived from your post) is not as simple as it sounds. If your mates can easily identify where the coin is then I think much more practise is required. It took me 6 painful months before my 1 coin flurry was up to performance level. Each vanish needs to be smooth and convincing so it appears believable.
The flurry does not allow time for audiences to react, each movement is carried out one after another, the audiences follow the routine and you finally give them a big finish. That's the general idea. |

Right you are fingers. As a matter of fact in yet another example here, just this morning on my way in to work, I showed a guy on the bus this as we walked through the Port Authority. He was standing to my left as we walked and I showed him a silver coin. We stopped and turned a bit toward each other and he turned his gaze specifically to the silver coin, and I showed it palm up and palm down quite fairly. I then did the Crimp Change and the coin magically became an English copper penny and the guy just gasped! I didn't move right away and allowed him all the time he needed to register the impossibility he had just seen, even turned my hand palm up and palm down again and did something crazy this time...I actually asked him as he continued to look, how did he like "This," as he was looking right at much more than he could imagine, most confidently displayed. I think it went right over his head (as it should) as he didn't have a clue about such things and as such only saw what to him was magic, pure and simple. Like you said, if you do it right they have no clue and can only involve themselves with the overall amazement of the moment -- And it is quite amazing! The guy walked a ways with me and just kept saying, "What a ****er!" I just smiled and bid him a nice day. Hey and you know what's funny, I don't ever feel like I'm hiding anything when I do this...Sorta Zen-like I guess. Lotta Zen stuff in the Crimp Change, I've come to realize.
I gotta tellya, I have always wanted a move, an effect like this one. One where you can present magic on the fly, without any crazy, choppy moves and not have to ditch or run from the moment. For me this is some powerful magic, that can be done on a dime and is quite immediately fantastic. I think you found that out too, didn't you fingers.
