Hi:

I'm curious about a coin vanish that's featured in the film HOUSE OF GAMES. The scene has Joe Mantegna's character standing on a street alone. He flips a coin in the air, passes it to one hand, passes it to the other, then opens that hand to show it's going. Then, as the kicker, opens the other hands to show that it is empty as well.

Help? Advice? Point me in the right direction....

Man, I love that movie.

I'm just a beginner, but I always thought that he used some kind of s******g.

This is the second thread in as many days that brought up that movie. I haven't watched it in a while, but I dusted off the DVD and I'm going to kick back and watch it again this afternoon.
Clay, if you liked that, take a look at "The Spanish Prisoner" when you get a chance. It's also directed by Mamet, deals with a con game, and also has Ricky Jay in a character role.

Yeah, The Spanish Prisoner is good. Gotta love Steve Martin. In fact, I like to watch The Spanish Prisoner back to back with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Don't really know why.

I love Mamet and his weirdo dialogue.

Mamet's movies always have a "stagy" feel to them, like you are watching a play, and then as they draw you in it gets to be all about the nature of reality, and the stagy dialogue makes it even harder to determine what's real and what's the con.
I love the dialog between Joe Mantegna and Ricky Jay at the poker table in "House of Games", they bring just the right tone to make you wonder if it's real or rehearsed, which works perfectly when the truth comes out later on.

The poker scene in HOG is fantastic. I simply love it. The whole movie rocks, as does TSP. And while it doesn't deal with cons, another great Mamet (very quotable) is GLEN GARRY GLEN ROSS.

My favorite quote is still from HOG. "Oh, you're a bad pony. I'm not gonna bet on you."

The best scenes in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (not Mamet) is where Martin is playing Cain's brother....crazy and ****ed off...as he starts knocking over stuff in the room like he's ****ed off. Just so very funny.

Any help with that coin vanish???
