Absolute Magic - Derren Brown
Psychological Subtities - banachek The gift - the 14th step to mentalism - Paul brook (i really liked it) Corinda's 13 steps to mentalism Ormond McGill's Encylopedia of stage hypnosis (every mentalist should be a hypnotist.. it makes logical sense.. your rationale is that you can control the mind.. well do it!!, doesn't matter what you believe science proved hypnosis decades ago, and modern research identifies core areas of the brain using advanced MRI technology). :) |

Someone wrote to me a while back asking about the availability of the Hector Chadwick book. I don't remember who it was. If you're reading this, contact me...

For Mizarrism:
13 Steps / PME / MMM (I consider that one large set of books sorta like the Bible) The Mind and Magic of David Berglas (demonstrating the power of knowing two techniques well can make you an International Man of Mystery - its all in the presentation afterwards) Maximum Entertainment (I am surprised only one person mentioned this yet - very important) 5 Points in Magic (Juan T) and Ascanio Volume 1 (I put these together as they are buddies and they sort of go together - theory and practical nuances Finally, the complete set of MAGICK (for a plethora of ideas and inspirations) ------------------- OK, I sorta cheated since the above is more than 5.... I am happy to say I own most of the sources listed by others - it really is hard to nail down the most important but really, I'd say thematically: 1 book on the Basic concepts and techiques 1 book on presentation 1 book on applications 1 book of fine tuning methods and subtleties of theatrical angles 1 book of a plethora of effects for trying out Fill the above, you are doing well.

Mind Myth and Magick T.A. Waters -- Always discover something new or now applicable where it wasn't before...
Absolute Magic Derren Brown -- this blew my mind and my thinking wide open... Syzygy -- Some of the most innovative pieces on the planet -- amazed no one has mentioned this one... Mind and Magic of David Berglas -- incredible read, again -- forever discovering something "new"... Cloud Busting Secrets -- Jerome Finely... This book taught me what I think is the single biggest secret of the art. Applicable to all areas of performance -- not limited to cloud busting...

Don Theo III - great taste in books mate.
The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words.

I find it interesting that, 3 or 4 years ago, most every such list contained "The Color Series." They were legend when they were difficult or expensive to get, and rarely seen on these lists now that Prism is widely available. Likewise, a lot of books on these lists are expensive or difficult to get.
My own Favorites are Artful Mentalism Perception Is Everything Psychological Subtleties Mindsights And finally, in the "I know something you don't know" spirit that drives our art and which I alluded to in my opening comments: Anything that I have that you might not be able to get your hands on.
