Talking of Ace Place Phillip, do you know if Paul Stone is still actually 'dealing'?

I had the opportunity of someone doing the Ellis Ring Routine to me a couple of years ago on my thumb and then used a silk over it. It penetrated the silk back into my thumb. At the time I had no idea how it happened. It was amazing. Has anyone done this simple effect with the Ellis Ring on someones thumb with a silk.

Hi Wallace,
Most of the Ace place range is handled by The House of Secrets 12, Caunce St Blackpool UK I think Paul Stone stll has a finger in it somewhere as I often see him with Bill who runs the above shop. U.S. I think the supplier is Stevens Emporium. phillip |

Phillip,
The Johnson Ring is actually quite good in this regard. I have had no problems with sound being an issue.

Yesterday I bought Johnson ring.
It's incredible!!! Now I'm going to study the routine that are in Ganson's "the art of close-up magic vol. 1". What do you think about? Thanks for your support Massimo Pulidori |

I have a couple different rings now. I work them with my own ring and rope (three phase)
routine. The Viking and Johnson are both top notch but somewhat soft and easy to bend. I have a heavy chrome set ($5)from daytona that can take the beating the two good ones can't so thats the one that gets carried around.

I have a gem of a book - John Howie's "Routines with The Jardine Ellis Ring" - Published by George Armstrong in 1955. It has some very useful ideas and excllent graphics.
There is a detailed bibliography including five refernces to "Thumb Fun" which was first published by Franklin V Taylor in the Phoenix in 1952. Others developed this including Dai Vernon and Peter Warlock. I am glad to here about the Johnson ring, I have had troubles finding a really convincing product. |

Can anyone tell me where I can order on-line a Johnson products J. Ellis ring?
I'm eagerly waiting your routine Scott. Seems a nice opportunity to finally get one (or2).

For those who might be interested, my routine, complete with photos, also appears in my book, Magishing My Way.

I had long since discarded my ring, I had thought of it as a useless prop, and had never given it the time it required.
having read the chapter in the Art of Close Up Magic 1, I took it out again, and my interest was rekindled...well for a short amount of time. Once again it bored me! Jump to a few days ago when I was reading an old effect in The New Phoenix...i was intruiged by the picture, and the routine so I took out the ring, and started trying some things out! I came up with quite a few ideas, I do not know how practical they are, but if you would like a look, feel free to PM me, and I will happily tell you...several of them use techniques normally used for coins, but adapted to the ring...i think they are quite interesting. Paul Wilson has a nice Ring on Stick routine with the Ellis ring called The One True Ring. He sells it as a download at http://www.rpaulwilson.com/ . The website also has a video demo of the trick so you can check it out yourself. There is also an Ellis ring routine in one of Chuck Smiths lecture notes.
