Just got it this morning and quickly scanned it before heading off to uni. But I was wondering what sort of hit percentage do you guys get when performing it? Banachek offers an 'out' if all goes wrong but on initial reading a thought it a bit lame so was wondering if anyone uses any other 'outs'. I like the routine alot and pulled off right should look like a miracle. But I am not to confident that the ****** ***ce will hit regularly enough for me. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It works. But even if it's a little off, you can always attribute it to the different ways that individual watches react to this experiment (a perfectly consistent explanation). Either way, you've performed a miracle.

You don't need an out. If they say a number too low just say you'll move it at least that amount maybe more if you can. It's absolutely fine. I've performed this many many times and whenever I'm out, the shock is that the time changed, the actual number of minutes it moved becomes forgotten as you don't play it up. It's one of the best impromptu effects.
I don't like the exact handling from the notes however. |

Hi Mesaboogie,
What do you mean by: "I don't like the exact handling", and so what did you change. The patter or the handling of the watch? |

I ask the number and if its off the number of minutes I will call that time too. another direct hit again!
Good luck to all. Rick... |

Like I said earlier this trick is new to me and I haven't yet performed it, but does anyone that does perform it not find that the spec will find it obvious how the trick is done if they are off on the force? For me the miracle is that the time matches that mentioned, the fact that the hands moved is obvious and unimpressive, after all you have been holding the watch.

I'm sorry to disagree with you, Sak07, but if that's where you feel the miracle lies, then I believe you're presenting the effect backwards. Performed effectively, your ability to change the time on the borrowed watch using only the power of your mind IS the effect.
That the watch moves backward the same number of minutes as those called out by the spectator while the watch is safely enclosed by his hand is marvelous frosting on the cake, to be sure. But if you can't make the psychokinetic movement of the watch convincing in and of itself, then I fear no amount of frosting will help.

It's a very strong effect. Necromancer is right, and it would be a boring board if 1000 other bothered to write the same thing, but it really is amazing, and yes it takes a LOT of ovaries/balls to do it, but that is the way the mentalism world is. Mentalism is not for the meek!
Try it out. You might get caught, but then again maybe not! You have to read the directions very carefully and the psycology is essential, and THAT is why you wont' get caught. If you are a dedicated student, you will read that manuscript until you have it memorized so that you remember what you are doing and why. Why am I even trying to sell you this? I have reaped so many benefits from performing this, and I love sharing information, as sure, there are gimmick ways to change the time, but I like helping out other obsessive people who love psychology. I look at this as the mentalist's version of a card mechanic. Sure, you can buy an invisible deck, but isn't it fun if you can to it manually? If you're not convinced, then don't do it. buy a trick watch. You are the one performing it, it's your artistic decision as to what YOU think is magic, and that is perfectly valid. If your audience notices your handling of the watch and doesn't buy the moving of the hands, the effect is pointless. Such suspicion of the audience would tend to suggest a flaw in the performer's presentation of it, not a flaw in the effect/method, given that Banachek and countless other performers (myself included) perform this effectively every day of the year.
Don't let the simple mechanics of the effect fool you; this is most certainly not an easy effect. You really need to be able to be convincing to an audience to sell it; you can't do a couple card tricks and then do this, of course the audience is going to suspect it. In the appropriate place and situation, framed in the right air of believability, done by a performer with the skill to really sell it well, it kills, time and again. If you can't effectively sell it, or you're not comfortable with it, nobody's forcing you to perform it. Just because you bought something doesn't mean you have to perform it; I wouldn't write it off wholesale, since there's always something you can learn from anything you read, even if you don't use it as written (or anywhere near as written), but I wouldn't feel obligated to do it if I didn't like it. And I also certainly don't want to talk you into doing it if it's not the right effect for you. Heck, I wish fewer people did it already! --A

I feel with a lot of effects such as this in order to be successful you have to find a way to do it that suits you...I did buy this effect around 7 years ago and I don't use it. Not because its not a good effect but because the handling didn't suit me and I never really took the time to adjust the presentation to suit me.
I could never get away with the "bold" move that misdirects you from the method. If I were to get it out again and regain interest i think I would rethink and find a misdirection that fitted in with my persona. It does take a lot of nerve to do and a considerable amout of time practicing with different types of watches. I guess slight of mouth has always been my strong point rather than slight of hand |

As has been so well put already - unless you believe you can do it, it won't work. i've only performed this for 4 people thus far, but even in the worst case, using my own watch (because theirs wasn't suitable) and missing the time by 20 minutes, it still amazed the spectator. Practice may not make you perfect everytime, but it certainly builds confidence.
This effect is beautifull. PS - anybody want to buy a Time Machine watch? |

PK time is very strong
You can change the "move" to something else PM me and I will tell you more. Does anyone knows when did the PK touch was invented? Just got it yesterday |

I know it's an old post but some days ago I was performing pk time to some friends and so I asked a number between x and y but it was far to low. So I asked to an other number between x and y and add it to the other number.
By doing so the miss ratio will be really low but I don't know. I fell wrong with that method. You guy have much more experience than I have with this effect so what did you think? Will the effect loose a lot of impact? It's better to be off by a something like 20 or more minutes and do some psychological work? |

Trust me, it's impressive and most people will no suss the method. Bear in mind that the "magic" is done before the trick has started. That's important - I tend not to make a big deal at all about the watch at that point, I use a very casual voice and just get them to hold it in their fist whilst I explain what is going to happen. Then I go into "presentation mode. You get the idea - the whole thing is designed to set the point at which the effect starts as well after I held the watch. Also you'll find ways of pushing the specs towards your goal e.g. if they name a low number you can say "let's be more adventurous than that" etc. Looch has some good watch effects using different principles that fit with this or offer an alternative. If you've not already done so I'd very much recommend his Your Thoughs Are Mine DVD set - very relevant to the semi-casual performer. |
