I want to remake my Hundy gimmick, but don't have the $600+ dollars for it. In addition, I wanted to try bleaching bills but didn't want to go into the gray area... So I'm thinking about 2 dollar bills. Do you guys have any good presentations? I'd like to use my "Hundy 10" mostly when buying stuff at stores (7-11, etc) to impress friends Smile

Thanks!

I made the gimmick several ways but settled on $1 to $50 and seem to get the same reaction from spectators as with $100s. You could certainly do $1 to $5 (or $10s) for what you're talking about.

I've thought about doing this at the checkout in Wal-Mart. Pulling out my 5 $1 bills for a $30+ order and going through the routine with the clerk. My wife has always stopped me though...

I use the 1 dollar bill silver certificates with the blue stamp. And change them for 2 dollar bill certificates with red stamps. With the right patter it works great.

Think of the story (patter) you want, and then decide from there. My patter seems to work pretty good with 1s to 10s.

The bills start folded and I double count each bill, once when I grab the corner, and once when I unfold it. "See, 10 dollars". No one is trusting me now. I ask how much they think I have, then show the 5 bills.

Then say that I can double the money! I say "Watch very closely" and fold the bills. "See, I doubled the money" A mini first climax, and I haven't even done the first trick. I let that settle in for a second.

Then I do the switch. Let the middle climax settle in as if the trick is done (unfortunately I've had a couple people in a large group look away at this point, thinking the trick was done).

Then I say that unfortunately I can't change just the outside bill - they all change. The build to the final climax.

I use $1's to $2's all the time. Keep it in my wallet so I can always perform something... My basic presenation (although I have changed the handling) is I ask if anyone has a $2 bill on them. I want to show them the "FAMOUS $2 Bill Trick". I take out my money from my wallet and count out the singles... "I must have left mine at home"... When nobody has one I begin the trick and I say something like, "oh well I will try the famous $2 bill trick with these singles...." Fold, count to 2, Change and say, Oh there they are, the famous $2 bills... Hand them out, run the gags like "have you ever seen the hitch hiker on a two dollar bill?"... Now in the rare chance that someone does have a $2 bill, you fold it long wise or just have them wave it over your hand with the folded ones... Then proceed with the change...

Cheers,

Justin

I've got a collection now with 1's-100s, 1's-2s, 2's-10 and magazines to 1's so I can repeat perform.

I do Heiny 500, but of course it's the same gimmick. My current favorite is magazines to 1's (I posted about this in another thread). The magazine sheets look totally ridiculous when they spring into bills, it looks insane. I may do magazines to 100's next.

Some great ideas in this thread. I'm glad to hear that there are "options" to the standard Hundy that aren't as expensive. I had completely dismissed working with it when I first saw the effect since I remember my experience with Greed, which costs a bit less. I'll have to revisit it now.

I use 5s to 10s 'cause I get to use the line, "Do you know what the fastest way to double your money is? Fold it in half!" etc.
-A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.
-It is easier to fight for one's principles than to live up to them.
-The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything.

I agree it is an expensive trick. With that being said, I also agree w/ Greg Wilson that $1 to $100 is by far the most impactful way to do this. $1 to $50 is also good. If you use the right kind of adhesive (I used a glue stick), the gimmick can be taken apart if needed, and no bills are cut up as in Greed.

The late, great Fred Kaps was happy changing strips of paper to one dollar bills, and I see no reason to not do so. His presentation was what sold it. "I don't like people to see I have any money." (Show papers) "Travel with these...then when I need to buy something, (does change) I have money."

I'm coming back to a Kaps-type effect. The 1 to 100 is impressive but expensive, and it seems that a 1 to 2, 5, or whatever does not have the same impact. I do like the impact of going from plain paper to real bills. It is more visual and striking than 1 to 100.

So I made a Hundy gimmick out of resume paper and 1's. I used the Hundy gimmick in place of the EZ Money gimmick, since it seems to allow me to show the bills more fairly.

The down side of the use of paper was that the paper portion of the gimmick started tearing before I even got to show it. I'm now trying to use cut Tyvek sleeves from old 5 1/4" floppy disks. I made the crease in the sleeves line up with where I need to fold the bills. It looks pretty good, sounds ok, is very slippery for my dry hands, but it will last!

I'm having second thoughts about the Tyveks. It is sooooo white, I needed to hit the edges with a green/yellow highlighter to better cover its presence.

I like the idea of changing strips of paper to 1's. That may be a less expensive way to get a really strong impact. I watched the demos of 1's to 100's and seem to have gotten some great reactions. I did 1's to 20's.

Thanks, all.

I purchased this DVD a while back but have been waiting until I could spare the $600 needed for the effect. I think I may try the paper to ones idea. That seems like a pretty impressive effect. I'll save the 1's to 100's for the day I get rich!

I like to do $1s to $5s because I don't like keeping more than $50 in my wallet. Plus my last name is Cinco so I'm trying to make a patter based on that too.

I think we magicians over think a bit. Remember what the spectator sees.... an amazing change right in front of their eyes. Who cares about the denomination! Let's put it in another form. If I am changing a banana to an apple would it be better if I changed it to an orange? (;-)

I would disagree that the analogy between changing fruit and changing money isn't, pardon the pun, an apples to apples comparison. This is intrinsic value in money that isn't necessarily the case for fruit (unless one lives in a culture where a rare exotic fruit is regarded as a medium of exchange).

For example, I performed this today following another effect and the spectator asked me if I have ever thought of using my "magic" for personal gain. Seizing the moment, I replied that once in a while I "think" about it but I don't actually do it because I'm not quite comfortable with the perception of ill-gotten gains. I then proceed to remove the 5 bills as I say, if you could change five dollars magically, what would you change it to? Well, this person said " five hundred dollar bills".. Well you can imagine the rest. This person almost peed on themselves when the bills changed into 5 one hundred dollar bills. And to top it off, I changed them back in a very visual open way (using a handling from Extreme Burn which I love) since I had told them I wasn't comfortable with changing and spending currency after my magical powers.

I don't know if I would have gotten the same reaction to the question and effect of "what fruit would you change this banana to?"

Again, only one man's opinion......

Changing an banana to an apple as opposed to an orange I don't think is a good analogy. that is because an apple and orange are about the same price. changing a $1 to a $5 is WAAAAYY differnt than from a $1 to a $100. And seeing $500 compared to $25 has a lot bigger impact. Changing something into $500 is what gets people to ask me to change their $1 bill into a $100 bill. Sure it's a $4 gain going to a $5, but it's a $99 dollar gain going to a $100!!! That's why I've been asked so many times to change their money, and I could see their sincerety which is another topic lol.

Wow, you guys are really into this! (;-) I actually do $1's to $50's and have yet had anyone say, "you know that would have been a lot better if they had been $100's."
LOL
