Don't miss the spectacularly cynical article, "Are Magicians The New Hollywood Playboys," in the November 2007 issue of Details (pages 114-116). Quoting Penn Jillette as calling magic "the Special Olympics of entertainment," author Steve Kandell marvels at the sex appeal of conjurors (in particular, Criss Angel's rumored relationships with Cameron Diaz and some gal named Britney, along with Hans Klok's onstage "frolicking" with Pamela Anderson) -- expressing no little surprise that magicians seem to be eclipsing rock stars as celebrity love magnets. Jim Steinmeyer of 'Hiding the Elephant' weighs in on how Angel takes the grungy street theatre of David Blaine to its inevitable next stage. The Details piece concludes with grudging admiration for the sensual persuasion magicians are allegedly capable of, "if using your illusion can get you (deleted), then you really do have to believe in magic." Any reactions?

Penn was right IMO, at least from mainstream entertainment's point of view...
