Here's a new DVD I found on the net from Paper Crane Productions.
http://www.papercraneproductions.net/ Here's the track list: Sleights * Classic palm * Thumb palm * Finger palm * Back palm * Slide vanish * Bobo vanish * Watch vanish * Shuttle pass * Bobo switch * Utility switch * Click pass * Coin flip Routines * Pulse * Winged silver * Coins to glass * Multiple sleights routine Running Time Approximately 31min Here's the demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOyM1oDAQ....../?p=2447 I don't have this, but here's a couple issues that I have with it. In the demo you see the performer doing Jay Sankey's "Slick Splits" or his handling of Ammar's "Sonic Squeeze". In either case, what does these two routines have to do with Bobo's Book? The Winged Silver that he is performing, in the demo, is David Roth's version. Again, how is this the best of Bobo's? Where is the Shuttle Pass talked about in Bobo's? To me, this is just another DVD to add to the glut of basic magic DVD's. I understand if someone doesn't want to shell out for the 4DVD set, but wouldn't you just get Roth's ECM Vol. I or Ammar's Complete Intro to Coin Magic? Why do people do this? Am I crazy or is this superfluous? |

I liked it when he said: "You can hear them... watch!" Cracked me up!
Nice production values. |

It smells like a Magic Makers production but I have been told it is NOT. It is done by a first rate company that wanted to introduce beginners to the book, at an affordable cost, the DVD showing material from the book.
I'm looking forward to hearing from folks that have the DVD and what they think.

Well my problems are that they are including material that isn't in Bobo's.
The "Winged Silver" in the clip is David Roth's and not the one from Bobo's. Shuttle Pass is David Roth's and not in Bobo's. The clip shows him performing Jay Sankey's "Slick Splits" which has nothing to do with Bobo's. It looks like they are including other people's material and repackaging it as a Bobo's DVD. Another thing, look at the effects given in Michael Ammar's Intro Dvd (which is five bucks more): Holding Out, The Finger Palm, The Ramsay Subtlety, The Classic Palm, The Kaps Subtlety, To Classic Palm One Coin of a Group, Fingertip Rest, The Thumb Palm, The Back Thumb Palm, The Downs Palm, Buckley's Downs Production, Goshman Pinch, The Back Finger Clip, Deep Back Clip, Tricky Trousers, A Sure Bet, The Phone Home Pen, Double Your Money, Completely Gone!, What's In Your Ear?, Coin from Tie, The Simple Take, The Simple Put, The Schneider Vanish, Le Tourniquet, The Reverse French Drop, Ammar's Loose French Drop, The Classic Fake Transfer, The Slide Vanish, The Friction Palm, The Spider Vanish, Thumb Palm Transfer, Classic Palm Transfer, Silver Dollar to Four Quarters, Half-Dollar to Five Dimes, Coin Thru Table, Flurry #1, Simple Coins Across, Misdirection, The Wand Subtlety, The Revolve Load, Dai Vernon's Thumb Palm Load, Load During a Wave or Gesture, Ammar's Sonic Squeeze, Copper & Silver Transposition (Kort), Ditching, Heel Clip, J.B. Bobo Complete Vanish, The Palm Down Steal, Coin to Key, Gone!, The 1-Minute Coin Vanish, Coin from a Spectator's Hand, The Thieves, Sheep and the Barn Since most of their DVD is including in the above one, I just don't see the value they're offering and they seem to be adding to the glut of magic DVD's. Differing opinions are welcome and appreciated. I'll send the company an email so they can reply. |

The plot thickens my friends. If you go to their website click on their "story" and then click on the magician Shaun it takes you to the myspace page of a Ted French.
Check out this thread by Mr. Ted French posing as a person who bought it and not the person who made it. http://themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic......rum=41&5 Shady shade my friends. Thanks to the fellow Caféian (sorry I had to) who pointed me in this direction. |

Hey, I have been gone so I can respond now. First I was not posing as a buyer I was simply saying that it was a good DVD for beginners. Second we tried to stay as close to the book as possible, I am not aware that any routines were from David Roth. I would like some who has seen the DVD to tell me exactly what is from his routine. I would say from a short clip you cannot tell everything you are claiming. If it is found that what you say is true then I will try my best to fix the situation. Lastly I am not going to get into a argument with people here so if you want to speak directly to me than send a pm and I will give you my personal phone or email. I want to take of this if it is found to be a problem and I appreciate any help but I am not going to fight over the internet.
P.S. My name Ted French as well as my myspace page is a name from an inside joke my actual name Shaun Dunn

Okay Shaun, ow about we look at the demo clip a little later today and see if that's been fixed - and review what's in plain sight? That fair enough?

Looks like I put my foot in my mouth once again. I forgot about "The Touch of Midas" which "Slick Splits" and "Sonic Squeeze" are variations on. So, hopefully that is what is being performed. Thanks to Curtis Kam for the reminder and apologies to Ted for the accusation.
Ted, The Winged Silver in Bobo's (both versions) has an obvious throwing motion to the other hand, as the coin passes. In your demo video, the hands remain closed, a la Roth. I disagree with you on the "posing as a buyer" thing. You intimated that you owned the DVD and that your favorite routine was "Pulse". You made no indication that you were, in fact, the creator of said product. Most eyes here would take that as someone who has bought the DVD and is recommending it. |

A soft peddled introduction to coin magic to get folks started is likely a good thing. Nothing about expertise just a few tricks to get folks moving. The more the merrier in that regard. Best wishes on that basic agenda.
Bobo's is IMHO a lousy book to use as a first book. It was intended as a survey of modern items at the time of publication and omits the basic teachings found in the older texts folks were expected to have read. Coin magic is in a rough transition phase, where the larger coins are nolonger part of our currency and the smaller coins are tough to CP (but pretty good for EG ) Distracting a discussion of "borrowed" works with personal issues is not going to win any quality/confidence points around here. And teaching sombody else's tricks which they themselves teach on other products is - awkward -. How is later this evening for a detailed reivew of content/quality of material as shown in the demo clip? Surely there are more "bobolike" moments to show and better clips of non-bobo material? Maybe even change the name of the product to lose the bobo name and go with something like "getting started on today's coin magic"? Tip for the student, you can press your thumb and second fingertip together while using your third (ring) fingertip to transfer a coin into CP.

Hello:
It should also be noted that the way in which many of the moves in Bobo's are described lend a certain ambiguity in what that exact method might be. I don't mean the larger gestalt of the move, but the finer points that will crop up in the doing of various techniques. Even the DVD's out will be, to a certain extent, each authors interpretation of how the move should look, move, execute, etc. What 'make a tossing gesture' might mean to one practitioner may look in action quite a bit different with another. This is in fact perhaps the strongest argument for having more than one video interpretation of what is in Bobo's! When first starting out and having only books to work from as I had no one to watch or mentor in my area it was having two different books that both described the Classic Pass that made it possible for me to eventually learn the move. I honestly don't think I could have done so if all I had was 'just' either of the two volumes alone. So Bravo to multiple release of what to many might 'seem' the same information, but hopefully will display a variety of subtle interpretive efforts. Best,
Brad Burt
