What hope do you see for mentalism in the future. Audiences are demanding for immediate and fast entertainment these days and in the future, I think that performers like Derren Brown and Marc Salem come out as the winners. What do you see in the future?

Cornelius,
It's just my opinion (of course), but I think that there is a possibility that audiences might be able to accept a different pace for different kinds of entertainment, and that there are different kinds of audiences. Movies targeted at teenagers use lots of fast cuts, but serious films aimed at adults have a different pace. A juggling act should probably be short, fast, and funny with a bit of tension. A ballet is paced differently. What sort of audience are we talking about here? What is the performer's stance? Are they lecturers/demonstrators of genuine psychic phenomena, or are they doing mind reading in a night club for people who have been drinking? Some people (like the ones in the bizarre magick section) are doing very limited numbers of performances for very small groups of people. They are achieving their artistic goals, and their explorations have been of benefit to others in the magic community who have a different style. They are winners too. As for what I see in the future: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......5&22 Yours, Paul |
