I've been practicing bullet since its release. I recently submitted my performance of bullet to ellusionist to post. They said it needed a lot of work. I think its decent, I don't see why they failed to post it. But also on their website is a disclaimer for those videos saying they are being EXTREMELY scrutiny with it and it has to be absolutely PERFECT . I thought my rountine with bullet looked OK, I just used the performance Justin Miller used, not airborune.
Please tell me what your thoughts on are with it, and any tips appreciated. Thank you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqFKkozcdKY |

Firstly, I know it's not your fault, but getting rid of the background toilet flushing noise is a must.
I felt that you held the bottle rather stiffly before the penetration though, but I thought it was alright other than that. Good luck and keep at it! Logan

Well, keep in mind that I'm deaf so I can't make any comments on anything you "said". I can only comment on your movement.
The trick itself wasn't bad. I mean the method wasn't exposed and the trick "Worked". It's not likely a non-magician would be able to see how you did it. But your movement seems a little stiff. Here are what I see as the weak points: -The display of the coin seems too rehearsed. The rotating back and forth over and over again is a little over kill. Kind of reminds me of how a robot would move. -There's a lot of hesitation. At the last moment it was almost as if you where trying to remember what to do next. -The moment before the penetration was too hurried. You went from bottom then very quickly brought it to it's side and pushed it through. This quick movement screams "I just did something sneaky". You're right though. It's not that bad. I'd only suggest make your actions a little more relaxed. I know it's not easy performing for no one. It's just a camera there so it don't feel like real performing. But either try to imagine that camera is a person and instead of "displaying" the tricks. Perform it. Imagine you're talking to a friend live through a web cam and you're performing it for them. Another route would be to actually have a friend there and perform it for them while the camera is on you. I also suggest you get your face in the picture. The face tells more then the hands and words do. I see a lot of videos where the magician hides their face. When they do they are displaying a trick rather then performing magic. A trick is so much better when you can see the face of the magician performing it with a smile on their face (Or what ever look fits the performance). I don't know if this is going to be accurate or not but it's only based on the performance I saw. It doesn't appear that you've spent a lot of time performing it for real people. It looked like the performance of someone who has spent some time mastering the trick. but not much time peforming it for people. I come to that conclusion because it didn't look like you "performed it". Like I said. It looked like you "displayed" it. Keep working on it and let us see your next video of it. I'm looking forward to it. Just my thoughts. Ron Jaxon |

Thanks for the helpful feedback everyone.
For my next video I will do the airbourne verison, possibly the orginal handling used in the demo video. I know it needs work, but I'm glad you all agree it wasn't THAT bad. I still think ellusionist deleteing the video was too harsh. Alas, that is life. |

It was done ok, but it wasn't really a good representation of the effect...
The reasons I believe this are that firstly, the bottle is mainly stationary, which is not showing the emptiness well. Secondly the moment of penetration was way off, too hurried and the moment of impact was lacking. You never exposed anything, and it was pretty good as far as a cib is concerned... but it's not a good performance of how Bullet is intended to be |

No, I don't think he's referring to the coin not flying up high enough. It's not a matter of the trick not done right. It's a matter of your actions while doing it.
For example look at the video right before the penetration at 00:13. Watch that moment a few times and really ask yourself if it looks right. To be honest your actions make us feel like you're nervous and haven't really performed this trick much. I'd imagine if you keep performing it for real people. Then make a video of yourself performing it in a few months you'll see what we are seeing. It just needs work. Putting a video on line is a big risk because it's not like real life performing where they don't have a second chance to see it happen. In a video they can watch it over and over again. So your performance must be very clean. And by the way. I commend you for asking about this and taking the criticism. Not everyone has the guts to do that and most wouldn't listen anyway. So I'm glad you're the kind of guy who wants to improve. Much respect for that. Keep working on it. Ron Jaxon |

It was ok but you need to work on your presentation. Talk a little more and make add to the effect.

I know this thread is about two weeks old but I wanted to comment on this video. I must say that I've absolutely never practiced coin magic before (strictly pasteboards) but I didn't like the way the coin was "vanished" before the reappearance in the bottle. Other than that I think the performance was fair. I'm not sure if the one you used is the way that bullet was taught in the original manuscript (or video) but there has to be a better way. Maybe going from the position you were in to the cla""ic p""" would have been better so then you can show the bottle with the left hand. Once again, I know nothing about coin magic but the performance was definately fair.

Try uploading your magic videos to http://www.magicvideodepot.com and you will get immediate commentary from your peers. Plus, if you expose or screw up but still want comments, its a fairly low volume site and won't expose to public.
I host my vids there and at podbean.com ..I redirected my site to that video site. http://www.magicians.tv ----- I just looked at this effect and I don't think its that bad from a laymans view. There is no exposure, but there is also no EV (entertainment value). I think part of the problem is the lack of video frames in the web cam you are using. The magic is lost in the video swipe or blurr. I also believe that you could penetrate from the side of the bottle and still work it, by almost a clapping motion with coin and bottle meeting at once. --------- If I did the effect, I would have the bottle upright, tap the coin on the cap as I sleeve it using the middle finger. that's the way I do copenetro. That way there is almost no motion and the entry illusion is realistic.

You presentation needed to be smoother, no "uh" should be heard in the patter. Camera angle was rough, needs to be better centered. Background noise and background were distracting. Your move was adaquate, but the handling of the bottle was too jerky, needed smoothness. The penetration was not immediately obvious, which it should have been. As magicians pointed out above the effect got lost in the blurr.
