Haha.
Whatever the heck he wants it to be or mean. I'm a Gaffologist. A Foolertainer. My terms for what I do. Who should give a hoot to this extent what I call myself? what's the diff? It's MY biz what I name my biz. He chose Paranormalist. Cool. Whatever. It's his rent he needs to pay and the handle he sells to pay it. So?

I just don't understand why Jim has to provide a disclaimer, defend himself, label himself, or do ANYTHING to "clear the air" or "explain" anything to anyone. An artist owes nothing but to be true to himself. Jim has done that.

I'm right there with you, Gabe. He isn't going around taking advantage of the bereaved, so I really don't see what the problem is.

Jim was right on in his interview. Never heard anyone publically denounce CA and his camera tricks like that. Well except for Mr Osterlind and his DVD series telling it like it is. Mr Osterlind is too kind, just dislikes what the art is becoming now.

Should I lie to make you feel that your world vuiw is correct Harry? C'mon Angel said he would expose and bust me and he did not. He had to try another way to make himself look good. You think if he could he would not? In addition here are my answers to an NBC writter that were sent out yesterday. http://www.jimclass.com/Phenomenon%20Answers.htm Jim

From the Psychic Entertainers Association ethics:
(NO, I have no clue if Jim is a member. Just found it interesting. And for the record, I have said here before that Jim is living his act. That doesn't mean I agree with him. And certainly could not do it, from a moral point of view. Just sayin') ---------------- Policy on Ethical Psychic Entertainment When acting as a paid entertainer, the claims a person makes are rightfully up to the individual performer. The success of Psychic Entertainment as a unique art rests upon the uncertainty of the audience as to the legitimacy of performers' claims. Those who are against a psychic entertainer causing such uncertainty are essentially against psychic entertainment as a form of entertainment, and would have it presented, if at all, as yet another "trick" of the conjuror. Were this to happen, the mystery and intrigue of the art would disappear. So far, psychic entertainment has survived the "anybody can do it if he knows the secret" syndrome that has characterized the rebirth of magic. Preserving the inherent mystery of mentalism will keep it that way. Is it mindreading? Is it hypnotism? Is it applied psychology? Keep them guessing. Mentalism and weird/bizarre magick are presented as entertainment. Performers receive compensation for their efforts as entertainers, and, as such, are free to make claims appropriate to the creation of a state of mind necessary to suspend the disbelief of an audience. Ethical performers may choose to make disclaimers regarding their performances, but it is by no means unethical not to do so. As long as no claim is made with the intent to cause detrimental reliance, either financial or personal, on its authenticity by members of the public, a performance can not be considered unethical. In contrast, unethical psychic entertainment is the use of the art to defraud. Those who seeks to cause another person or persons to believe in their powers, in an attempt to induce affirmative action in reliance on that belief, are unethical practitioners, and their activities should be condemned by entertainers. In short, claim to be a psychic as you feel appropriate, just don't defraud those who believe you. |

I hate analretentive people on the Café threads that only have enough imagination to only spell words one way
It get's a little boring. Go spell correctly somewhere else please. We think outside of the box here. You knew what the words were, but you aren't hip enough to find anything else to challenge

There is much to be challenged on this thread and unfortunately, this forum has been very one sided and often times, silly. However, if you'd like to hear my "challenge," here you go: Regardless of what Jim claims to be or what term he wants to be called, he left the impression on "Phenomenon" that he could channel a deceased person named Raymond--an author who couldn't spell. Most people across the country watching his performance don't take the time to research what he claims or really care for that matter. Vulnerable people, like some from my own family whom believe I have special powers because I pull a coin out of their ear, can very easily get fooled into believing that what Jim does can also be done by Billy Bob the Psychic Reader down on Main Street. They then take what little money they have left from their social security and run down to see this Billy Bob so they can find out whether or not Grandpa Willie is doing okay in death. That is what I have a problem with. Most of us on this forum know that Jim Callahan has no more powers than what you or I could muster-up, but most people watching "Phenomenon" do not log into the Magic Café either.

Well since they don't log into the Café then they are safe from our one-sided views
I don't know ANYONE who's ever spent their last SS money on a reader...It may happen, and every now and then a Shark eats someone, but it's rare considering the billions of people on this planet. That dog don't hunt Go after Sylvia Brown of Johnathan Edward..They may claim to do that and take money. Why waste you time here...Unless you are being paid to do so by....you know who Spark Art!

Welcome to the Magic Café (under this name), I hope you enjoy your visit. BTW most people across the country, watching a magic show on TV where a guy refers to what he does is entertainment are going to accept what was done in that context. The ones that want to send their money into him are the same one's waiting for their margarine tin to talk and say "BUTTER" It is amazing how many people come to the magic forums to save the stupid and ill-informed public from the dangers of entertainment. Thank goodness we have people who are so superior to us all that they can save us. Tony |

Rare? You either live in a small town or don't get out much. I must agree though that I would like to go after the Sylvia Brown's of the world much more than Jim Callahan, but my point is that Jim has given the impression to the general population of America that it is possible to speak to the "dark side" thus contributing to the false pretence that spirit communication is possible. I've never said that JIm, personally, has taken money from anyone. I said that he leads people to believe that it's possible, hence, "tricking" people out of their hard earned money. No one I know of has given Sylvia Brown or Jim Callahan a dime, but that doesn't mean that I don't know people who have given their money to others because they have not used their own common sense after seeing what someone does on television.
I would like to add that although I support Angel's stance on exposing those with false claims, his actions towards Jim were out of line. It should have been handled much differently. And to your final comment, nobody is paying me a dime to browse the forum. I'm just a person who used to be a magician many years ago and looking at getting back into the hobby. One thing I can guarantee after reading this, my days of performing "Out of this World" while telling people they are being guided by an outside force are over... |

Hello Tony. I tried to use my regular log in (yes, I'm ProfWag from other boards), but for some reason my registration was lost and I wasn't able to register with that. Hence, I had to sign up with a different one.
With that said, I see your personality hasn't changed with your condescending comments. Thanks for showing us your true colors. |

Hey Jim is writing a book!!!!
Jim - put me down for a preorder! But you must sign it personally or fergetabbowteet (that neologism is for our new pal, lvwag801). Like the comment about a fruit basket, Jim! Hey lvwag801 - all those whacked shows on Discovery, TLC etc. that go into "mysteries" etc. are also promoting people to go be "exploited?" Oh and saying someone is being guided by outside forces while experiencing OOTW is usually TRUE. Think about it. The real key distinction in charlatan vs. entertainer is the reason for the relationship and the understanding of the experience about to be shared.
