As some know, I have been working on my street show for a very long time and I think I have gotten down to the nitty gritty . If you havnt read my orginal post, it is right here http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......6&19 . I have some changes and was wondering about your imput. First since I am a beginner someone suggest that I used a theme to help me with the patter and so I have decided to make it kind of like a matrix show. I will talk about bending reality. Becouse there is no reality. Our mind conforms to what we think is normal. We have to break the norm. I have decided on the tricks as my final list (Unless you don't like it.. Then I will change it)
1. Light Flight - Great hook up... A small lighted ball flys through the air and any were I decide. (Remember I am preforming at night) 2. Spoon Bend - I think this would be great to go along, expecially with this kind of show. 3.Invisible Deck - Classic mind reading trick. I think I need some mind reading. 4.Spong ball routine- You only THINK 2 balls are going into your hand or you only THINK a yellow ball is your hand. 5.Anything Deck- One of my speacialties.... Very strong and I know that 2 card effects don't go well togethor but this one is extremely strong. I also think that instead of my shirt I said I was going to were. I think I am going to change the outfit to My cargo pants and black shirt... Any suggestions will be gladly excepted:) Thank you,Feel free to cus or discuss anything.

Daniel,
If I may, I do a lot of street magic and I think I can give you a few bits of advice; which you could take or leave. First, I like your concept, that is something that can pull your overall routine together. But, you seem to be jumping around between props. that is something that can kill you in the street. Every time you change props gives the audience a chance to wander off. It is like a commercial coming on TV, they pick up the remote. Use the same item as much as you can, then if you must segway to the next prop do so by using it in the last effect or quickly having it ready. I know that is not always possible, but do it as much as you can. Let me give you an example of what I mean. I see you are doing a spoon bend. Why not start out by moving the spoon on the table with your mind, then bending it, then show them it was not really there at all (vanish it). There are three powerful effects that use the same item and will keep your audience. Then tell them just as you saw things are not what they seem, produce a deck of cards (or whatever), when one thing leaves this univeres another appears! Do two card effect and then go into your finale. Make your finally something real strong. If your second card effect is real strong stop there. There is something I see in many magic shows that really bothers me. It is when a magician goes into his "magic room" picks a few things off the shelf puts them is some sort of order and thinks he has a "routined show". He doesn't, IMHO, he has a bunch of unrelated tricks. He may do them well, each of them may be amazing in itself, but it could be so much stronger. Just some thoughts, take them or leave them. Regards, Brady |

Actually a total of 2 of these effects are ones that I bought individually (Do sponge balls count.. If they do then that three). Any more help... Please?

If you Want to entertain people give them a show not a series of tricks you learned from the magic store, that's what you get at a coctail party not from a proffesional. Daniel I can tell from all your postings that you are going after this gung-ho and really want to make this work and work well, and i think you are going to be A-ok. You know what you want to do with your show but what you need to do now is make it flow. Rocco has a great saying that he uses over and over again.. "Its the space between the notes that makes the music." Without spaces you would just have one solid tone. You have the notes(tricks) now put them together to make a song out of them. Find a way for each trick to flow into the next one Frankly i would cut the amount of tricks down to three or four, and fill in the time with more interaction with the audience. Interacting with them is what will keep them watching, and paying you. I have too often seen a great manipulator drive the audience away because he was too interested in himself and his show than the people watching. Mat |

If you are performing where its dark i woiuld keep night flight, though it can be trick to use/store, and lose the cards. If you are performing where it is light out then lose light flight. While it is still neat to see the floating effects there are better things that you can do instead. I would lose one of the card effects either way, stick with one and do it great.
Sponge balls are always a winner in my book, so keep them. Spoon bend- I don't use any of them as i never had one that i thought worked well for a large crowd. Over all though you need to decide which tricks work for you. I am not going to do Gazzo's or Koz's routine because they don't work for me. Pick what you feel are your strongest effects, and then choreograph them so that there is a flowm from one to the other. You WILL NOT get this the first time you perform them. It will take many times of trying different routines till you find one that works for you, but once you have it you will never need another. Mat P.S. if you do use light flight there is a method of making the ball float in your outstreched hands far from your body. |

knowing what kind of tricks you do on the street is important. don't change to much when you start out as a street performer. give the show a change to grow. if you always change you will never get a show. your audience feel that there is something not right yet.
there are 3 things to maake a street show: #1= getting a crowd #2= keeping a crowd (The show) #3= getting the money concentrate on how you can build a crowd. importatnt note "how YOU can build a crowd". you should get the crowd by you personality. someone said "people ar first interested in people then in what they say and then in what they do". putting together a show is important, but if they don't like YOU they will go. no matter how great your tricks are. some magcians start out doing tricks do get a crowd. they will get a crowd but then they are half way trough their show. so when they do the big finale the audience will judge this and pay for this. usualy this is a short time so they pay less. so the best ting to do is first get a crowd and then start a show. for more thoughts on this subject email me. have fun on the street. |

good p[ost...solid.....i start by doing magic...but then i stop and talk....communicate....build....but i like to do a lot of short sets....over and over....so my shows don't last 45 minutes...they just don't....someday maybe...when the humor grows.....gazzo...i think he doesn't need to do any magic at all..he could just feed them lines....that guy is great!!!!....i don't care what anyone says....some critisize him for his humor...well it works...it works great!....
cellini builds by just doing magic...its all he does...hes not that funny....hes great! really great...his magic is so solid...and his never varies....just throws out lines to suit the situation...so you cna do it both ways...but the guys who make hte most money are the guys who build with humor and personality....cellini says all the time....make them like you....then it doesn't matter what kind of magic you do...you can suck and they will stll give you hat...because they like you... koz |
