I've been trying to get an answer on this, but to no avail. Any history lessons would be appreciated. I've got an idea to use sound effects (a sampled/recorded sound of a coin falling into a cup) to create the audio illusion of just that. I don't want to recreate a gimmick that already exists so can anyone tell me if this type of thing has been done. Obviously there's rattles and that sort of thing but I've never heard of using an audio recording (built into a pen, perhaps) to create this illusion. My suspicions were that a Kennedy effect called "Stir Fry" may have used this type of gimmick but it appears that is not exactly the case. Again, if you have any knowledge of the employment of this type of device, I'd love to know.
Thanks, Platt

Dr Rubinstein has an effect on his knockout coin magic where coins travel invisibly to an okito box, but you hear them land inside. I think it is volume three

That seems like an interesting idea, though I am wondering why you WOULDN'T just use a rattle-like gimmick. It seems like it would work well.
Also, coming from an audio recording background, the speakers required to create a convincing sound of a real coin falling are neither cheap, nor very small. Also, if its the same sound effect each time, it'll be suspicious. You'd have to do multiple clips and probably randomize which one plays at each activation. If it works well though... I'd love to see it.

Best to keep it simple and use a rattle.I have worked on lots of things like this including coin to the pocket ware after a copper silver routine the last coin becomes invisable and when tossed in the air it falls in the pocket with the other coins. I have worked this out mecanicly and works very well and no one to this day can figure it out. Good luck with the idea but as MFELD wrote that the speaker system and the repeat sound being the same just dosent sound natural but again you never know. Best of luck to you.
