Short of going to coin shows and paying too much, or getting lucky and picking up one in your change (yeah right), where have you acquired your walking half dollars? I use Kennedys because I used to save the silver ones, and have a Kennedy shell.

I go to a local coin shop and get 1940's in "decent condition" (consistant with the ones I already own including gaffs) for anywhere from $3 - $5.

I'm from Toronto and there's a shop here that sells worn down Liberty halfs for 3 bucks (canadian), if you want, I can send you their address..

Any coin store will have them. They are not rare at all. The other option is ebay, although you won't be able to check them out before you buy them if purchased online. It's better to play with the coins a little bit before you buy them so you can feel how soft they are, and overall condition.

Get them on ebay but stick with reputable sellers.

Same here. I bought a roll on E-bay -- a lifetime supply for me -- and was very pleased. Because you're not looking for collectible grade coins and don't need them all to be the same dates or series, you can get away with paying a tad less. When you receive them, just polish them up with some silver cream, and you're on your way!

I go to the local coin shop. It is nice to be able to look at and feel the product before buying - a drawback when purchasing on-line.
One of the nice things about going to a coinshop is that you can match your "sets", dates, state of wear and such. Just my 10 cents. Josh
