Here's an ad I received the other day:
Cesaral Magic Bulb: The light bulb effect to end all light bulb effects! An audience member selects a bulb. You take it, concentrates on it, and a bright flash of light emanates from the bulb. You then wrap the bulb in plastic bubble wrap hand it to an audience member. It is impossible for anyting from the outside to interact with the bulb. Step back and, after exerting tremendous mental powers at the bulb, it turns on gradually until it reaches full brightness, and a few seconds later turns off gradually. Here's my comment and question: 10 years ago and earlier I may have used this effect. I'm not so sure I would today with the advances in technology. Would you use it? Terry

I'd use it if you could show the bulbs not chosen by the audience member were indeed real. If you could break a few to show they are legit ( thus apparantly showing that the one they chose is real) then it'd have a better impact.
Otherwise the audience is going to suspect what you worry they are going to suspect. Best, Tim |

I could see myself using it in an educational setting as a pretext for funding enviromental alternatives:
I would open with a few remarks about how important scientists are especially in the area where man searches for new forms of energy. (imagine I'm in a school etc.) I would say something to the effect that right now we don't have enough scientists or even the best scientists working on these problems. Case in point - I would show the lightbulb. " This bulb runs on methane gas - let me show you." I would take the bulb and place it between my butt cheeks and start to bear down. While making loud, wet, flatulent noises the bulb would slowly start to glow. When I was finished I would pun on abut how this idea doesn't really stink as bad as all that, but points up the fact that we need the best and the brightest going into the sciences. Not really a mentalism routine I think. A.

It sounds like it would fit within an Electric Act, and since they are usually so short, it might be a good way to stretch it in an interesting way for an extra minute or so. At that, $400 might be OK, depending on the freedoms of the method.

The question is, can you make a bulb light up over your head?

The answer is - yes I can!
And you can too, gableson, but you will have to be careful to first remove the bulb from between your butt cheeks and then pull your head outta your ass before raising it above your head. A.

If I could reach my head down that low, I wouldn't be wasting time with light bulbs.

...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.
