I was a little unsure if I should post this but- after some research I do not have found a realy answer.
FYI: I have make some research on e-bay and google, which was not very successful. I bought some low price stuff from GB- but with a clamp. I am looking for magic slates in the size of a pad. I have different kinds of pads - which have such a gimmick - in different kinds of quality- individual make and industrial produced one. Target is to use a magic slate in a Pad. You can estimate whatfor. The slate must be very thin and quality should be very durable. It should have no clamps or additional things around, like for example a children magic slates etc... I do not really want to fumble around with it when I will order it somewhere. For example reduce the paperback and so on. Cutting to the right size would be okay. Optional order-sources regarding the individual components are highly welcome- to make a magic slate by myself. So, if you have some really proactive informations regarding - where to buy magic slates for "magicians", than please let us know. kindly spinki |

Finding a reliable source for quality magic slates is quite the task! I sometimes help John Riggs make his devices and we've never found a slate that we didn't have to fumble around with. We have also never found a source for these outside of children's slates. We did try making our own but had little success.
Here is a link to the current slate we are using, but it doesn't meet the description you gave. They require a lot of work to get them usable. I hope you find what you are looking for! http://www.schylling.com/mm5/merchant.mv......Code=SAC Jonathan |

Spinki,
I have never found those small pads to be of very good quality (although I can't claim to have tried them all - the one at supercoolstuff looks interesting). I do have some small slates here which are indicative of the general quality you get. Note the spotty impressions: Also here is their thickness compared to a playing card. Hope this helps you, Jonathan |

How good that is? I've used it on and off for more than 10 years now so I know it works AMAZINGLY well. Only four people at preesnt have seen the preview of the book, with THAT simple "magic slate" in it. Ted Karmilovich, Michael Weber, Bruce Ballon, Tony Iacoviello. I think that our own Tony Iacoviello can agree how much that slate is as quick to make as saying "1-2-3!" and how perfectly works for images, numbers AND words!

For slates try Howard at the trickery. Tad bit more expensive but you will be dealing with a very honest dealer, interested in your satisfaction. He has several grades most of the time.

Maybe I'm a prude, but shouldn't this discussion be under "Inner Thoughts"?
I realize "spinki" and "Mentok" don't have access to that forum yet, but IMHO this is too much info to share on a non-restricted area of the Café. Terry

His method of constructing the slate is ingenious and simple (not to mention inexpensive). 2 minutes is an overestimate, it takes far less time to construct one. I don't want to say too much as this is one of the 4 items in his manuscript. Highly recommended! Tony Iacoviello |

So apart from yours, Lord of all Horses, is there any other material - books - or effects using this principle?
and is there any way to move this thread to inner thoughts? Thankyou.

Hi spinki I started a similar thread not so long ago. I wanted to make a pad up using a magic slate but for the magic slate to be a4/a5 size. I tried everywhere to find out the exact materials used to make a magic slate up myself. I emailed everyone, tried all the art stores etc to find out what are the material used when making a magic slate. Unfortunatly knowone could help me. Even google etc couldn't help. My only solution now is that I have done a search for magic slate or magic screen and found the biggest size available. I bought it and then ripped it apart so that I was left with the materials I needed. The biggest Magic slate/screen I managed to find was A5 size and that was on Ebay
