I have seen a few reviews of this on other UK sites and the prices seem to vary from £3-ish to £10-ish. I have also heard that some of the cheaper ones are the better.

Does anyone have any good advice for a reasonably talented newcomer to magic regarding a particular version to go for, why and from which supplier?

Thanks very much,

Tom

I own 3 versions, E Z Magic is the least expensive, there is an easy steal involved at the end. I give these away to the "birthday child" at parties. I also have a Johnson Ball and tube that is "locking" so you can hand it out with no steal. Lastly John Kennedys Chrome Fussion - the ball is welded to a solid tube at the end. I can't really say that I like one more than the other though. Magicsmith has all of these + a few more versions.

The Johnson is good quality, I have one of these myself. A buddy of mine has a Viking one that has a "solid" brass tube that the ball sinks into. Both are top notch and end
about as clean as you could be. Good for up to four to six or so specs.

I think its Doc Hilford that has the new ball and tube book for the cheap steel set.
Magic warehouse has it.

I gave my cheap steel one away to a beginer
last year when I upgraded most of my close-up props.

I have the Johnson locking version. It works as well as any.

Some years back I illustrated the instructions for a version put out by Steve Minch and Jamy Swiss.

The climax was that the tube turned out to be a solid bar instead of a tube.

It was called Critical Mass. I don't know if Jamy still sells it or not...

I remember critical mass.

I have owned both and sold them in the shop. And I would go with the ez magic one over the more expensive johnson one.
