Does anyone know how I could coat Tic Tacs so I could reuse them; and they wouldn't get sticky or stain my hands while I was holding them?
Thanks

I would start by using a Matte or satin clear coat spray. Lay all the Tic Tacs on a clean surface. Put a very small bead of Handi-Tak on the back of each Tic Tac. Spray a light coat, let them dry for 10 minutes and give a second coat. Turn each one over one at a time and repeat the spraying. Reposition the Handi-Tak to the other side for coating of the second side. Just my first thoughts, as you may find a different type of spray that will work. This is a good method for application.
Hope this helps! Chance Wolf

I wonder if I should lay them out on wax paper so the matte does not stick to the paper. I'll have to give it a try.

No, don't do that or the Handi-Tak will not stick. Do not be concerned with the overspray. The Tic Tacs are round and will create a natural cover for the overspray problem; as it will not actually get under the Tic Tacs. The Tic Tacs are raised off the surface due to the Handi Tak. Just use a fresh piece of paper for the second coat. Give it a shot as I have done this before with round objects. Make sure to spray directly down at the Tic Tacs rather than at an angle and all should be well!

Save time and avoid the possible residue from the Handi-Tak by srtetching a piece of tape out, and securing the Tic Tac (with more tape facing the other way) down at both ends (and possibly somewhere in the middle). Gently stick the Tic Tacs to the tape and spray away.

Good idea Thomas, it was an obvious oversight on my part. To add to your idea, double stick tape will solve the whole mess. Do not press them down too hard on the second side, or you may lift the clear coat off.

Chance, I've used double-stick for this sort of application but the stuff I buy currently comes out of Canada. It costs $13+ per roll -it's the very best double-stick I've ever found for my purpose, so I save it for where it matters.
Just for the economics of it all I use 2" wide low-tack masking tape held down at the ends; alternately you can spray a piece of cardboard with spray adhesive and stick the back of the tape to that. TW

Thomas,
Your Wisdom is always appreciated. I certainly have a lot to learn as I continue my efforts into Magic Manufacturing. Unfortunately, as you know; we seem to learn by filling boxes of "mistakes". Maybe along the way, your advice will save me a few boxes! Thanks for your input for all of us, Chance

Have you considered filling a TicTac container with dried beans or seeds which look like the real thing?
Some varieties of green bean (or string bean) seeds are probably the right size/shape/color. Might be cheaper and easier in the long run. |
