In Norway there is a tradision for Christian Christmas partys, some of them long time into January. This is a place where the whole family come, our church have a lot of this christmas partys and we have been using Gospel Magic in them for several years. Many of the peolpe comming to our christmas partys are non-christian or non-active christians. We have found that Gospel Magic is a good and funny way to make them listen to the gospel, and the kids loves it.

But now I am out of idees to "Christmas magic". Do anyone of you have a Christmas routine? I use a loot of other gospel magic routine, and ordinary magic, but some christmas magic is really good.

What ideas have you already used?

This is hard to say in English. I use a bag that you turn inside-out several times, each time it change color. When it chang colors I tell the story about christ born and so.
I use a bag whith silks whit a christmas tree, christmas food, gift and more. But it into a bag and then a kid will pick the "most important thing in Christmas", when he pick he find a silk with baby Jesus. All the others have dissapeared.
I think that is it.

I use "Jo-Anne the Duck" (The Educated Duck) to pick out the cards from an alphabet deck. I ask her to spell a gift that boys or girls like for Christmas. She spells "dolls" or anything you want her to spell.

Then I ask her to spell out the greatest gift ever. She spells "Jesus."

I usually get kids up on stage to help hold the cards. There are other bits of business (gags) that can be used during the routine.

Once you purchase the duck you also have to purchase a duck of...I mean a deck of cards!

I performed this in Russia in 1992 to celebrate the first legalized Christmas in over 70 years. I went to hospitals and orphanages to perform during what we called "Happy Birthday Jesus Parties."

I took a blank deck of cards to Russia and my interpreter helped me with drawing the Russian letters on the cards and told me how to spell the words I needed (and then I told the duck)!

So just buy a blank deck and write the proper letters on the cards and go from there. This is a great trick and illustration for kids.

On a side note, my interpreter at that time was an atheist. He would share the gospel when I performed the trick although he didn't believe it. Ten months later he placed his faith in Christ at a Billy Graham Crusade in Moscow, and now 15 years later he is serving the Lord in a Christian ministry in Russia!

Great news from Russia. Myself I was I Moldova last summer. The Salvation Army in Norway and the Salvation Army in Moldova had a camp for kids. I performed at this camp serveral times - the kids loved it. It is a great way to share the gospel. A lot of the kids lived on the street. The Salvation Army picked them up from the street give them a bag and some cloth, drove them to camp. One week with Jesus, a lot of other kids, a lot of food, sport, swimingpool. It was a good holliday for them.
Now Moldova is starving, thay have a hard vinter and because of a extremely warm summer they has little food. I am thinking about "my kids".
The great thing about this kids was that they realy belived. During the camp they at several times shared bible-verses. Most kids in Norway knows John 3.16 or 2-3 verses. The kids in Moldova stand up an say 3-4 verses, no note, no bibel. And they know there bible stories - great.

Not this summer, but maybe next I will be back in Moldova at another camp. Then I will bring Jo-anne the duck.

I use Dan Harlan's "STARCLE" routine where a paper napkin is torn (one tear) which results in a circular hole in the napkin. the paper from the hole is unfolded and its a star. My patter is about Christmas trees and the ornaments being round like the sun and moon (I use Dan's jokes here) and like the hole in the paper. There is one ornament on the tree that is not round. It represents the Star over Bethlehem that led the Magi to Jesus, and then the paper tear is unfolded to be a star.
