My first Magic Shop was Mecca Magic in Bloomfield, NJ. The first video I bought was The Art of Card Manipulation Volume 3 with Jeff McBride.

It was called Ellusionist. Ahh, the memories.
![]() The other day I learned that there was a magic shop in Oslo during my entire childhood. Nobody told me until I was 39.

Mickey's Magic Shop at Walt Disney World Florida. 7yrs old, I walked out of there with an invisible dog, a sponge granite rock, and a secret box with hidden drawers. I loved that dog!

I can’t remember its name… it was in the 70’s at a shopping center called the Pennsauken Mart in NJ. From there it was Tannen’s.

I can't remember the name but it was a small shop in El Paso, TX. It had one counter of items in a "sewing, materials, costume shop". 30+ years later and I still have all the effects. I performed one of them just the other day for my daughter.

Mine was The Fun Shop in Ogden, Utah. Marvin Lovestedt was behind the counter and did the cups and balls for me.

Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

For me it was Callin Novelties which later became Callin's Magic. It is no longer around, but it sure was the best of the best. I miss that place. I also frequented White Rabbit Magic by Jim Pace. We were lucky enough to have 3 magic shops in Portland at one time. Now we are down to one, Magicfest.

I think my first magic shop wasn't really a magic shop. I went to a flea market in Tampa, Florida, and there were 2 guys performing, and afterward, they sold stuff. I bought Professor's Nightmare and the Coloring Book and a couple of others. It was fun to see the show, then to be able to do a few tricks from the show right away.

When I was a kid, my friend and I used to order stuff via catalog from Holiday of Magic. This was back in the '80s.
Then, we bought Marshall Brodien's Magic Box at the local mall toy store.

Late '60s, the Main St. Magic Shop in Disneyland.
The first "real" magic shop was a store run by Henry Valluea in the second floor of his house in North Boise in the early '70s. Henry was an old vaudeville magician. Great place to hang out when I was in college. Nowadays, I occasionally drift through the Magic Apple in Studio City, CA.

The first trick I ever got was from a novelty shop in the Staten Island Mall in this little underground set of shops called "The Honeycomb". I don't even know if it had a name. It was of those Adams coin slides with the nest of boxes.
From there, it was right onto Tannen's and Flosso's in NYC.
