My first was a Stamp and Coin Shop in South Bend, Indiana. I was 10 years old and in elementary school. (55 years ago, ouch!) It was near the school, and the owner would have a few Royal and Adam's Magic Tricks in the window display. I bought mostly what he had; Color Vision, Finger Chopper, Lota, Chinese Sticks, etc.
The good old days. Sure wish I still had that stuff.
There was a time I had the blues,
the reason was I had no shoes. Until I met upon the street a man who had no feet. |

Gene Gordon's magic shop in Buffalo, N.Y.(1969)... He and his partner, Howard Eldridge, got me interested in magic, and Gene sold me a Tenyo Crazy Spots trick which I still have today...

The first magic store I visited was Hocus Pocus, located on South St. here in Philadelphia, P.A. Unfortunately, it recently closed down due to the owner passing away.

Devoe's Magic Den in downtown St. Louis, back in the 1950s sometime. It later moved out to Maplewood, a suburb, I think. Does anyone else remember Devoe's?

DeLarno's International House of Magic in the Picadilly Arcade, Sydney, Australia, early '70s. What I couldn't afford then as a 12 year old I can now (and don't it feel good!).

Fabjance Studios in Bethalto Illinois. In the early 70's my friend and I would go and spend hours looking at all of the neat stuff they had. Like Levity, what I couldn't afford then I'm more than making up for now. LOL
It's not the size of the wand that matters, it's the "magic" in it...

Main Street Magic in Cedar Falls, Iowa. My wife shopped there first for Christmas presents. She bought rope through body and color changing silks. My son and I went back on Jan. 4th and had a great time shopping. Barry DeVoll is a great magician and salesman. Bought some great items that day and still use them today. Unfortunately the shop has closed but it was great for a first time magical experiance.

Zeezo's Magic Castle in Cinderella City Mall in Englewood, Colorado. That was 1979. I have many great memories of hanging out there. I just stumbled into there, with no previous desire to get into magic. It ended up changing my life!

Misdirections in San Fran. ^_^
I was so lost and confused when I went in there and the owner was beyond helpful with what I needed and what I didn't. I live in Hayward, so its a bit of a drive to get there, but I still make the trip once or twice a month. Found out my co-worker is into magic and I'm taking him there today. |
