Hi I have a 10-11 feet rope, from daryl, what lenghts should I cut it into? I am a card guy who wants to be able to offer something else but cards, so I need 4-5 good rope tricks.
Kim edit: I don't know what is going on but my post is not showing in the strings section. I can only view this post if typing in the URL... |

Daryl offered about 15 to 20 years ago a rope rotuine consisting of several effects, using only one (?) rope. It was the basis for many other magicians developing their rope-routines.
I suggest to try to get this poster (yes, it was not a book, it was a great poster, as far as I remember) and you will have an entertaining rope-act with different effects (AND you can use always the same rope!). Angelo |

You can buy the Daryl rope magic three DVD set. You can buy the Karl Fulves rope magic book. You could buy the Stewart James rope magic encyclopedia. You should have a game plan before you pick up your scissors.
You have bought the best rope in rope magic, don't waste it.

If you get the Daryl vid for the routine it is number three. Lots of filler on those DVDs.
With Daryls routine you will cut the 11 feet of rope into three pieces and fix the ends so the rope will last you. It is a very nice routine, I do it, and you can easily carry the set up around with you and do it when you want. I prefer, now, to do one of the routines where you start with one length of rope, do a couple cut and restored routines, then you end up with the set up for the Professors Nightmare, which is a main component of Daryl's routine. The sources I used for these are Whit Haydn's Pop Knot Routine or for a DVD of very solid magic with rope, cards, coins, all that fun stuff, is the DVD by Paul Green In The Trenches. I wouldn't use the type of rope Daryl and others sell for this because you use up 11 or 12 feet per show. I like it because it is less busy than the Daryl/Sands routine and easier to follow for youngsters. Another routine, or other routines, you may want to look at are Loose Ends, I think it is called, by John Zander, or some of Columbini's work. Good luck. |

Note: Daryl/Sands routine and The Pop Knot are also available in written form, not sure about Mr. Green's, should you be a reader type learner.

Welcome to the knotty world of rope magic!
I'm new to it as well and bought the Daryl set and Fulves book to start. I have gone through the DVD's a few times and started working on Daryls routine today. Once I get it down I will make the changes to suit my style. The ring and rope on that set is a great starter as well! Good luck and have fun! Mick |

Pay close attention to the Daryl/Sands routine and really look at the Grandmothers Neclace principle, there is a lot of great magic you can do with it from dropping silks on command to body penitrations. Learn your cut and restored moves and false knots and you are set. As I said, lots of filler on those DVDs due to the A1 guys being addicted, at that time, to doing three tapes for every subject.

Good tip Santa! Gma necklace principle can be applied in many ways and I do think the Daryl/Sands routine is to rope what Vernon/Ammar routine is to C&B's! GREAT place to jump in!

For a fun routine, and one that I enjoy myself, try "Rope Magic of Tabary" DVD.

Get the Stewart James trilogy "Encyclopedia of Rope tricks" ... like Bobo for the coin worker... there's enough material in there for a lifetime.
