Someone posted this in the "Not very magical, still..." section for non-magical reasons. I thought folks might like to see it here because it's pure magic...Doug Henning. |

Both classic Doug. Hard to believe a whole generation has now grown up since he performed last.

I remember seeing Doug Henning on various magic shows as I grew up in the late seventies and early eighties. Back then he was a breath of fresh air in every show he appeared in.

Steve,
Enlighten me as to Mr. Greenjeans. I thought Mr. Greenjeans was a feature on Captain Kangaroo every morning when I was a kid. And I'm older than you! Steve |

Great clip Eddie. Thanks!
Brings back some really nice memories of both wonder-filled performers. I also enjoyed watching Mr. greenjeans on the Captain's show. The moose, hundreds of ping pong balls falling from the sky and the silent rabbit, grandfather clock and so much more. Wow... what a cast of talent! But of course , Doug Henning was a pure delight and really deserves credit for breathing life back into the wonder of magic. There are other threads on the Café that describe some of his past shows. I was fortunate to see him as a youth in his Boradway show.... ahh, the memories! He and his ever evolving performances are sorely missed --yet his spirit certainly lives on! Best regards. Jonathan

I loved watching Doug Henning on TV when I was a kid. He was mesmerizing, entertaining, and real.
He most certainly knew how to have fun with magic. |

Doug was an original - they'll never be another like him!
He and Copperfield filled my teenage years with wonder.

I too loved watching Doug Henning on TV as a child. I remember running to the TV with great excitement when ever one of his specials was on. He's one of the people who made me want to be a magician.

Just found this quote on a Doug Henning website. It sort of captures what I felt when I was watching him on tv:
"Wonder is a very subtle, precious emotion, often lost in the gross hustle and bustle of modern life. When we feel wonder, we are immediately reminded of the purity and innocence of our childhood. Then everything was magical and mysterious. Magic should help us relive that wonder." Doug Henning He definitely brought that wonder to life. |
