FAB magic in Colon Michigan was selling some Gospel magic, but to be honest with you, I would buy regular equipment and put a Gospel message to the effect. Let the Lord release creativeness into you...I have never been pleased with the quality of effects that are called "Gospel" magic, though the Magic Coloring book from Doc Haley's is better than any coloring book on the market that I've seen so far...but that's just my opinion.

Terry: I am sorry to say that I have to agree with you. A lot of the "gospel magic" is not of a quality that I want to use.
But I am always hoping for a good trick and routin, maybe I am to lazy to think myself.

By the way http://www.hanklee.org is a good web-page. Some gospel trick and low prices.

If you want some seeds for thought, visit my media page and you will find about 8 different routines there from spots that I produced for a television network. And if you have something and wonder about a routine, drop me a PM and I'm more than happy to assist you. I've been doing Gospel Magic for 24 years...and the only thing I've used basically that was "Gospel" is the coloring book.

Check out our web site.

The sites Chris mentioned are great as well!

PS- Dazzling Magic owners Marty and Brenda Hahne as well as Duane and Mary Laflin both host a great convention in Branson each year. Duane always does a day of Gospel magic lectures as a bonus day. You can find the information on Dazzling's website. As I recall ChrisG (posted above) attended last year for certain as well as I.

You cannot beat Steve Varro and Doc Haley Gospel Magic. Steve is a great Christian, magician, and has some of the best products for the Christian magician and children's workers in the world. He has books, props, DVDs, etc. He is always coming out with new tricks and products for the Christian magician.

It's still my contention, that we as performers should be creative enough to be able to take regular equipment and put a message to it. If you don't know enough biblical concepts to be able to do that, then (this is going to sound harsh) you shouldn't be doing Gospel work.

By purchasing regular equipment, it generally has a more professional look to it and you can use your equipment for both Christian and secular performances. The only thing I've used in the past 28 years on a regular basis that is a "gospel magic" item is the coloring book, Steve's is the best there is IMHO, and silks.

Because of the volume of work that I've done, I have enough material to go back to the same church 4 years in a row, for 5 days and never repeat the same effect and the only Gospel piece is the Coloring book and silks...on the same note, this month I performed 3 weeks in a row at a local theater and had a completely differnt show each week (several audience members were there for each show)

So don't be afraid to buy pro...because God deserves the best!

For those you who do not know me, I am a born again Christian who used to work on staff here at the Magic Café. I am Brother David.

I now perform both as Doctor Cognos, and Brother David. I did not create Doctor Cognos because I had a faith crisis or anything like that. I just wanted to reach a different group of people; folks who think mindreading, mentalism and the like is interesting, but would avoid Brother David.

But it doesn't matter which character I am in, I always bring in a discussion about God, and my testimony.

The only Gospel magic prop that I use is an effect I created using cards with crosses on them. All of the rest of them use the usual magic props including linking rings, and silks, and even a stiff rope. And I am working on a new cups and balls routine that will have a message as well.

I have performed on the street as well as at secular festivals and in those cases always begin by telling people that we are going to have some fun, do some magic, and talk about God! I then do just as I said, and talk about God as I do magic, and we all have fun. I don't recall ever having anyone walk away because I told them that we were going to talk about God. This is probably because God is safe enough, but only Jesus is an offense. But they hear about Jesus anyway. I never wish to offend anyone....any more than is necessary.

I posted here mostly to agree with Terry that you ought to be able to apply a message to the magic you already own.

I have to agree with Terry too. I have seen a lot of the gospel magic that is offered and I don't necessarily find the quality to be as good as I would have expected. I just take regularly marketed effects and use gospel patter.

Great deals on silks and other items and support a Christian run business I would recommend lockfamily magic. There you will find good quality equipment, at a good price, and even some gospel that are well made. I think they are family to Duane Laflin.
