http://www.subliminalscience.com/ is a good place to start in my opinion. Mr. Nongard is a member here and is great to deal with and has several dvds out. I believe tht he just released a new one covering the basics ryan

Yes the new DVD is out. And kinda fun, I hypnotize Steve Lancaster of Top Hat Magic a few times on the DVD. It was fun, he had never been hypnotized before. It is a good orientation/introduction and actually teaches basic skills. http://www.HypnosisGurus.com/ or available from any magic retailer who buys from Murphy's Magic Supply..

Many professionals, especially the old timers were self-taught through books and experience. Some had psychology and clinical backgrounds but in reality most not.
Fast forward to the year 2007. Textbooks are great, but video has to a large extent replace the textbook in both hypnosis and magic. Video education is a great way to learn by seeing and hearing. Of course the experience of most is that one they learn they never stop learning. If you buy DVD's and books and enjoy it, you will probaly go on to buy more and learn more, join professional association like the NGH and probaly attend classes. "Stage Hypnosis" classes like mine, like Jeff Ronnings, like Tommy Vee and Jerry Valleys, are really new ideas in the past 15-20 years. And, all of these classes are good, and a great way to learn also. Another way to learn is individual mentoring, but much has changed and a high profile mentor like Dr. Scott Lewis, Terry Stokes or Michael Johns in Las Vegas are thousands of dollars (like upwards of 7K or more) for "apprentice" programs but are well worth the money of one can afford them. And so, in summary, video is a great way to start, experience is a wonderful teacher, and other classes, mentorships and professional associations can and should guide you as well. I also think, even if one doesn't plan to use it professionally, that a basic clinical hypnosis training will do the performer well. The reason is that these programs generally are more comprehensive in teaching the basic phenomena of hypnosis, and can train you in risk, abreaction, and other areas where a depth of knowledge will help the stage performer. At my website you can find my stage hypnosis training, as well as those from Tommy Vee and Jerry Valley. One can always do a mentorship with Michael Johns or Terry Stokes through my office, and Scott Lewis and Jeff Ronning have their own websites. Hope this helps.
