Then I would let it Go and really work on a few slights for next year that would take practice. Then if he knows it might be hard for him not having practiced the sleights! But then again if he knows it, he might be a valuable resource for in the future!

Forget getting even...you need to consider this a learning experience.

Gazzo writes about a case where someone tossed one of his Paul Fox/Danny Dew cups into the ocean during a performance. He then goes on to talk about the lesson(s) he learned from that.

Seems to me like of possible lesson is choice of venue.

There is a time and place for everything...it sounds to me like this was a bad choice of time and place.

I would take my time and set him up one day by secretly sliding a card"marked" in his back pant pocket or try droping a "marked" quarter in his wallet side if it looked like it could fall inside. I've seen people BLOWN AWAY when an object ends up on themselves.

I would have said "shouldn't you be teaching your class?" that would get a few laughs and everyone would forget about he lousy attempt to screw you over!

Wait till your teacher is watching and bring out a one way forcing deck. That way when he takes a card you can name it easily.Dont worry if you get busted on the deck the laughs will be on him.

He said he knew a couple of tricks.
Then he took a card out of the deck.
"I have picked a card."
Don't rise to the bait.
Just keep staring at him. "I thought you said you were going to do a trick?"
"No, I want you to..." he says.
"Oh, you said you knew magic, I was just being polite, this is YOUR trick, how does it end?"
He does not control the situation, ever, if he's the audience, don't let him.

I dunno, your attitude that somehow the last 10 min of class don't count is what sticks out in my mind. Its disrespectful and, believe it or not, some kids are actually there to learn.

Your lucky he didn't just confiscate what ever you were using and tell you you could have at back at the end of the semester.

that's what they did in my day.

I'm with Cyberqat and Mickey -- being disrespecful in a classroom is never appriapriate, and doing anyhting in class other than giving the teacher and the subject full attention is disrespectful. I am sure someday you will be doing magic tricks at your job and wonder why you get fired. If you want to impress your friends try modeling what a good student does -- or even a good person.

no wonder why many people look down on magic -- it's just an inappropriate joke!

Yes, I have been a teacher and a job recruiter of kids out of school who don't know anything. You will be sorry that you didn't learn more physics when you had the chance.

Magus . . . that was great advise in handling problematic participants; thank you very much for the insight. Many of our society today have the attitude of "the magician thinks he's smart . . . but I'm smarter and I'll prove it . . . "; in other words many times there are those who take an adversarial slant to a mystery performer's art.

Thanks again!
Why is it that on one side of the world a person looks at a picture of the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks so real." At the same time on the other side of the world a person looks at the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks like a picture."
