Greetings ,

There are many books in the market selling " How to DIY Build stage illusions".

I want to buy a book which teaches how to build easy stage illusions.

Please guide me on which books or DVDS I can buy on plans.

Thank.

You should know, before you build and perform illusions,
that building deceptive and performable illusions is an art,
and it’s a whole other art-form performing them on stage,
there are those who can and do both, but that is rare.

There are also very few venues today where it is practical,
to stage and perform illusions, and fewer gigs who hire illusionists,
that means what you build won’t be performed often,
again there are exceptions, but most have lots of money to invest.

There is a trend for platform performers to want to put one small illusion,
into their show, and have at least one “big” thing to offer,
this is good marketing if done well, and I would suggest builders like
Creative Magic who specialize in quality packs-small plays-big effects.

I see you are new to the Café, I don’t know if you are new to magic,
however the mastering of other forms of magic is a good path,
before starting to tackle the larger stage illusions,
which use more than one person, and often sound and lighting.
It also takes building skills in several areas to master good illusioneering.

All that said, the old, old books and pamphlets put out by U. F. Grant
(and you can find about all those from doing a Café search here)
contain very valuable ideas for doing easier, low cost, illusions,
some can even be made from corrugated board and cloth.

The illusions in the Tarbell Course and Mark Wilson’s books and DVD’s
are also good jumping off places. But walk before you learn to run.

My thoughts,
Walt

I loved U.F. Grant's stuff. Burling Hull has other stuff to offer, too. Of course, illusions are harder to pull off than much of the smaller stuff, because a stage is usually required to cover angles, address lighting issues, transportation issues, setup issues, etc., etc.

Several months of solid research is advised, before seriously thinking about staging illusions.

Greetings,

I have practiced magic for long but not as long as you guys.I am happy with your tips SpellBinder but I like to move fast. That is why I am hitting for Grand Illusions.
I have the confidence I can build them.I am already in the midst of constructing metamphosis box and Ginsu Box with wood.
I will definetly like to try the U.F Grant stuff.

Can anyone guide me where I can get the Victory Carton illusions Book or DVD by U.F. Grant.

Best Regards

This is a site for magicians to assist magicians,
however, it is not a freebie, just sit on Santa's lap forum.

What you ask, is very easy to find, so go find some of it yourself,
and there is great value to doing your own research
rather than having everything fed to you.

You learn and find things you'd never dreamed were out there!

I know that sounds rough,
but why always take the easy, soft way?
Why not learn deeply by taking the longer path.

I'm happy to help, but not spoon feed.

Please re-read my message and Alan's message above.
Do some research, find some stuff, then ask for details.

From reading all your past posts, you've always asked for help,
with simple things most magicians have learned on their own,
and not offered help as yet,
try some give and take, and you'll get a lot more out of the Café.

I know you think I'm a D*** for suggesting work,
but that's how we all started.

No offence intended, however,
there is a distinct difference in “helping”
and “spoonfeeding” information.

It is human nature to appreciate what we have to work for,
and dismiss what is too easy to come by.
A little work and research is good exercise.

There is an old saying:
"give a man a fish and he eats once,
teach a man to fish and he eats for life."

Some of the secrets new magicians demand easy access to,
took the old pros years and years to discover and learn to use.

Just my two-cents on what TRUE helping is.

Magically,

I totally agree with SpellbinderEntertainment and Alan Munro.

When I first joined the Café, several people like them would often tell me to "use the search function" in reply to a topic I had started.

For instance, I think one of the first topics I ever started was a conversation on Brett Sherwood Cups and Balls and how great they were. Several of the guys had some fun with that one, but they were relatively nice to the 'new guy' and didn't carry it too far.

However, it showed me the need to search before posting, for had I taken the time to simply search before posting, I would have learned that the Sherwood Cups were old news to nearly everyone but me!

It also caused me to realize that this was not a forum with only simple packet trick magicians, but some of the best magicians in the world were talking here.

Even now, I still get told to, "Do a search"sometimes, but I usually try to search before posting a new topic as well.

I can promise you that if you'll take the time to show some respect to those who've been around and listen to them, you'll find the Café a great place to be.

However, if you're going to treat every post that has some constructive criticism as a threat then you're going to have a rough time here.

Best to you and your magic,

Kyle
