Same here. I really have to agree with Josh. Most of Jay's work over the last few years seems to focus more on quantity rather than quality. His early work though is really stellar, and I keep holding out that he'll soon return to his former glory.

I will say that one shouldn't worry about being one of the first 500 buyers, just so you can get the "special" coin. It's something that's easily made.
I'll post a link to my review after I watch it on Christmas morning/afternoon. |

C'mon Chad, afternoon? You know you'll be watching it right at midnight. Right in between showings of the "You'll shoot your eye out" movie.

You got me Pepka. Hey I enjoyed the latest Magic Lantern podcast, I just listened to it tonight.
If I'm good enough, maybe I'll get to see it earlier. We'll see. |

I honestly don't think I've ever seen any Sankey stuff nor can I say I even know who he is or what he's done! Am I missing much?

Once you have gotten over the begginner stage, Sankey's coin materials is a good investment. Must know the moves and names because he won't stop to explain what's the sleight and how to do.
Sankey has the most DVDs he produced in the magic industry. I think you should check it out Mickey. http://www.sankeymagic.com |

Mick,
I haven't seen Jay Sankey's first coin magic DVD but have seen some of his coin work on other videos I have of his. Sankey has some very nice real world magic effects. Many will fit well in impromptu and strolling situations. |

IMO, Sankey's Revolutionary Coin Magic is essential for any intermediate coin magician. Just like Roth's tapes are considered an essential starting point, Sankey's is essential once you have some moves under your belt.
Like Jaz said, for the strolling/restaurant magician, this DVD is absolutely essential. That's what a lot of it is geared to. Quick, high-impact effects that leave people stratching their heads. Jay's work is off the beaten path. While a lot of today's DVD's are the magician's handlings of classic routines, Jay's is truly new and original ideas hitting you for the first time. Since the VHS tape has been around since 2000 and a lot of the effects have appeared scattered in print much earlier, you're going to see some ideas that have become standard in modern coin magician's repetoires. Unfortunately, Jay does suffer from the age-old "reinvention" syndrome that seems to plaque a lot of magicians from time to time. (i.e. Slick Splits & Pancake Toss) But other than that, this is some mind-blowing coin work that will get you thinking. When I say "mind-blowing" I'm not talking about from a technical sense. While there are a ton of routines on this DVD, the main selling point is all of the utility moves. This thing is over-flowing with moves that you'll incorporate into your routines. Look at the list of moves you get under one DVD: Blackstack Production, Han Ping Chien, Rollover, Royal Rivet, Chien Ping Han, L'Homme Masque Load, Warm-Up Productions, Lift-Off Production, Roll-Over Switch, Cartesian Coins, The Flying Shuttle Pass, The Ramsay Subtlety, Slick Splits, Kaps Subtlety, Finger Palm Shimmy, Thin-Air Production, Plastic Surgery, K.I.S.S. Transpo, Wipe Principle, H.P.C-C.P.H., The Gallo Pitch, B.P. Ditch, Television Bend, Nest Egg, Hot Cross, Tenkai Pinch, Pinch Production & Vanish, Masked Pinch, Water Wheel Production, Invisible Coins, Silver Lining, Himber Vanish, Himber-Sankey Count, The Friction Palm, No Jacket Required, Capricorn Change, Pancake Toss, Sixth Cents, Newton Drop, Mass Consumption, Messiah Vanish, Two-Fisted Vanish, Mexican Jumping Coins, Strike Too!, Cuff to Cuff, Push-Button, Mr. Universe Coins Across, One by One, Under Wraps, Mr. Clean Coins Across, Penny Ante, Ups & Downs Bonus Material on DVD (2003) Transit Switch, Underground Railroad, Two-Fisted Split, Camoflage, Bulletproof, Deja Vue, Delayed Reaction, Crocodile Tear, Trapeze Transpo Compare that to other DVD offerings and you'll see what I mean. I don't know if this second one is going to be good, but the first one is essential. Mickey, I really think, from talking to you, that this will blow you away. Don't let the first effect (Blackstack Production) be an indicator though. It is considered one of the weak points of the DVD. |

Yeah Mick, it's a great dvd for sure. Sankey is not your average guy by any means, but he's a smart one, very clever and creative. To me, he does the kind of magic you'll like. It's real world stuff, stuff you can walk up to people and just do. It works just as good at party or in the office or even in the parlor. It's very doable stuff and a lot of it is amazing and done from stuff you know about already. I have his Revolutionary Coin Magic 1, but the new dvd #2 seems a bit more of the same stuff from the first one, at least from the demo. I guess I've seen Sankey so much that everything from him looks sorta the same, though it's always very good.
His coin stuff amazes and is not highbrow or classically presented as in any way up and above people...Just good stuff and a lot of it. You'll never hear the bigshots speak of Sankey, though most cases he's been where they've been and sells as much and more magic than they do, but he's sorta an outsider from their established way of looking at magic in many cases. And clearly Sankey could give a rat's ass at being looked at by them as in anyway less-than. But don't let all that stuff get in the way of recognizing some really good magic because it is exactly that and then some. Not only that but Jay does all sorts of magic, with all sorts of things. In his close-up effects, I've had his Leaving Home and Killer Key for years. Both very nice effects, easy to do and they break up all the coin stuff nicely. Jay's personality is all over the place and so is his magic. -Add to cart. -Mb

I always wondered about that Marion. Has there ever been anything ever said by the "bigshots"? It does seem that he is thought of as an outsider. I know the original deal with Penguin soured some people on him, but it has always puzzled me that you don't hear his name bandied about more.

Well personally hearing kudos from Chad, Marion, Tim, Jaz, Rannie, Vinny et al inspires me more than any of the big shots! I prefer outta the main stream and if a guy is not well known or especially looked down upon by the "guru's" my bad boy blood gets to pumpin and I'll seek em out! LOL

I had the opportunity to see a couple of things from this new DVD at a lecture last year... if the rest of the content is up to the same standard, we're in for a treat. Good thinking.
