Many years ago I was shown a routine by a carny, done with a handfull of pennies, I think 12 or 15. The object was whoever picks up the last penny (I think) looses. You would pick up 1,2 or 3 at a time.Any ideas? THX in advance.

This is an old (like ancient egypt) con game.
It is called NIM. It is done with a simple math formula. Brett.

Oh, and it is usually played with match sticks or something similar.

Also its listed in 100 ways to win a tenner (that’s 10 English pounds to you Americans and not a dyslexic leather worker) it has an additional “scam” where you teach the person how to win then get a shill to play him – but do a little something so the mark still looses. It’s a good book for about a tenner so it’s easy to win it back and more (not that I condone the use of it to actually make money).
