I'd like to buy borderless plastic cards. I'd like them not to be too rigid and not too slipping. Would any of you would recommend a brand?
I'm quite used to the Modiano plastic cards, I like their touch but it seems quite difficult to find borderless ones... |

Thanks Mr Z for your quick reply but it seems those Gemaco have a five stars logo on them, and I'm looking for a plain borderless deck, like the Bees for example.

They seems to be the right ones. I like the Modiano ones because they have a "paper feeling". They're not as hard wearing as some other plastic brands I know (like the NTP which in my opinion are way too difficult to manipulate), but they're so comfortable to handle.

Cool. I stick with Kems myself. Bordered Kem cards are what you're going to find in the poker rooms.
The "feel" and smaller size take some getting used to--they can be quite slippery and some moves are a bit trickier at first, but after awhile they're great. Any kind of mucking/palming works great with plastic cards, along with certain types of shuffle work.

Here in Italy we mostly use Modiano, also in poker rooms. Nevertheless I think I'll try to get some borderless Copag and a deck of Kem.

I personally don't like plastic cards. But, if I had to choose...I would use Copag Export (which look like Bees) or the new Copag Casino back design, which also has an overall/uniform pattern.
Both these back designes take Juice marks very nicely. Good luck on your quest !

Actually, I handled Gemaco cards for some time. They're not my first choice when it comes to plastics.
Copags are nice cards, but I have found that they show signs of wear quite quickly. Another problem is the indices, and that most of the Export backs are jumbo indices. This isn't good for the peeking dealer who likes to go deep. The cards do handle nicely, though. Anyone handled the new Hoyle Club Casino plastics yet? CC |

On an other forum I found some comments about those new Hoyle plastic cards:
"I have used them, I bought about 20 decks off the guy on ebay. He states they are made from the same card stock that the Kems are. They are a bit more glossy but the feel of the cards are about the same as Kems. At least half of my decks were bowed a bit. They still were playable. Not bad for the price." "I bought four decks becouse of the back design, love the green and tan colors. But, they are very glossy and a lot smother than my kems. I think that they are a little thinner than the kems. Good for the road games that I ran, but would not use them in a home game." What would be nice is to find a distributor who would accept to send a sample set of different brands so that one could get a first idea of which brand seems to suits best. Tommy, in your poker room in UK, what kind of brand do you use? Are you still using paper cards or plastic ones? |

I grabbed a deck at a drugstore the other day. To be honest, they're not bad at all. We'll see how they stand up to "wear and tear", but for now, I like 'em.
The finish reminds me of the Gemaco 5 Star plastics, but has it differences. The cards themselves aren't as thick as the 5 Stars, and as a result are more pliable. I wouldn't say that they are as pliable as the Kems, though. CC |

Kems. The punters trust them. I'm not saying they should but they do. They are what are used in our casino's here and they trust casino's I guess, the shuffle procedure and so on must be casino like.
I had some borderless plastics that I quite liked "Copag". They have nice rough backs. I don't like the cheap shiny ones. Copag are used in some casino's I think or so I am told but I have never seen them used in poker games. I think they use them at the BlackJack tables perhaps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copag

The best quality plastic cards I've ever found are the Angel Brand cards from Osaka, which I first saw at the Australasian Gaming Conference in Sydney about ten years ago. They NEVER have any warts or pimples or other mutations like Kems and they are REALLY precision cut - when squared the sides are like glass. They come in an overall back design that consists of dots, basically, and look similar to a Bee card.
I just found a cheap supplier here after years of fruitless searching and have ordered dozens of decks. They are thin and strong and faro like nothing else.
Whenever I find myself gripping anything too tightly I just ask myself "How would Guy Hollingworth hold this?"

Off topic and I doubt if these are any use to anyone but I saw them the other day and wondered.

Thanks ASW!
I found the manufacturer web site http://www.angel-co.net/topenglish.html and a short description of the company: "We are the manufacturer of paper and plastic playing cards in Japan. We supply all major casinos in Asia and Pacific. Please visit us for our security playing cards which are evaluated as the highest quality but the lowest defect in the market. You will understand what is the standard quality and accuracy of casino quality playing cards." But it seems those cards are hard to find on the market. I'll try to send them a mail to ask for any retailer. |

I emailed them years ago and they never responded. It was their sales team who gave me some decks at the tradeshow (I was working it for a different company) but obviously they want BIG trade orders.
I found an industry supplier here who said they'd be willing to sell to me direct and the price is really low. Even better, their warehouse is real close to where I live.

Furthermore, after purchasing another two decks over the past months, they are cut unevenly. A deck that is cut unevenly on the long sides is the bane of a riffle stacker's existence. Just an update.
