I am someone that throughtout that past couple of months has become very interested in mentalism. I was wondering what books and videos, etc. would you guys recommend to learn mentalism. I do know some principles, but I am still ignorant in the subject. So far I have been recommended The Max Maven Videomind Series, which are supposedly great. I am planning on getting those. But first, What do you think of them? Along with the recommendations of course.... Thanks a bunch guys!!!

I am also new in mentalism. But i could recommend the bible of mentalism: Tony Corinda´s "13 Steps of Mentalism".
All the best, Pablo Tejero

Dear Evan,
Get Corinda's "13 Steps to Mentalism". Think for a long time about what sort of persona you are going to adopt. Consider limiting your abilites to one area (telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, mnemonics) instead of the entire gamut of mental effects. Read all the old threads in this area of the Café and use the Search tool. Good luck! Yours, Paul |

Gaze deeply into my eyes and repeat after me: "I will listen to Dr. Wilson. I will listen to Dr. Wilson. I will listen to Dr. Wilson."
Read Corinda, not just as a book of tricks, but as an idea-starter of who you want to be as a performer. And when you're done with that, I would recommend reading anything with Annemann's name on it. These are the giants on whose shoulders we stand. Best of luck.

1) At least 100 people have asked a similar question to yours in here before. Scan the archives.
2) For a cheap but great appetizer, get Fulves Self Working Mental Magic before 13 Steps. IMO it's the 0'th step. 3) Make sure you understand the difference in mind set between magic and mentalism. This is IMO the most important thing for someone starting out in mentalism from magic. Fulves book will not teach you anything on this. Corinda some. The archives here brings up some. Especially my posts. 4) Video; always a risk of becoming an imitator. Great tapes. /Matias |

Tricks don't matter as much as psychology and presentation do. Marc Salem, I understand, uses principles all from Corinda's book.

I would say DO NOT get Corinda straight away.
It is a great book BUT you want to start really simple. If you wanted to learn how to play guitar you'd start with a book for beginers, not a book for someone who is advanced. Try the Handbook of Mental Magic by Kaye. It's cheap and much simpler to follow than Corinda's book if you are just starting out. The Fulves book already mentioned is great. Good luck Kevin |

The videos are a good start. You have to make sure that if you are to use the information on those tapes, to try and adapt it to your style.
Life is a throw of the die.
Mentally yours. |
