Imagine the ability to cause water to transform into beer, to be able to walk up to anyone, and to cause there water to morph before there eyes...
Welcome to... Water to Beer. Effect/product: Water to Beer Creator/performer: Café' member jayb Format: DVD Available: From most good magic retailers such as hocus-pocus, mjmmagic, pls from jayb's site http://www.whosmagic.com Price: $30 give or take, approx £15 What is 'Water to Beer'? This is a way to be able to turn a glass of water into a glass of beer... to actually cause the water to change. The DVD: Before getting onto the nitty gritty of the effect, I'd like to first give my thoughts on the actual DVD itself. The DVD has a running length of 11 minutes 57 seconds (exactly lol... not sure why I didn't just put 12... oh well). The quality of the dvd is not very good, with the camera refocusing and stuff during the explanations. The sound also is pretty low, even with the volume up. With that said, this doesn't hamper the teaching at all, and everything is easily seen and understood. It may not be the best of looking DVD's, but it does what it set out to do, and that is bring to you an effect... this it does. So overall a DVD that is not of too great a quality, but that accomplishes what's important. My thoughts: I was very much looking forward to this as, well, being able to turn someones own drink into beer is such a great idea, and has a lot of potential as far as how to present it... be it a straight up turning there water to beer, or more of a hypnosis slant etc. Anyway, this was something that I definitely wanted. What was I hoping for? Before recieving this, and upon seeing the demo vid, there were a couple of things I was hoping for out of this... I was hoping that this would play out as the description and demo had us believe, I was hoping for a practical and workable method, that there was no set-up on the glass or water before hand, that it would work 100% of the time, and that it was more than what some of the Café' members were suggesting... Well I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed in this at all... not only does it meet all the criteria above, but it's actually better than I had hoped. I have heard some saying that the beer could not be real and that the taste will be nothing like actual beer... well they are wrong. The beer in the glass is infact beer, just alchol free. There are 2 versions taught... one that uses something extra that will be in full view... the other (and my favourite) doesn't use this extra, and for me allows more freedom. The gimmick/method is very simple, and very clever... it's not something that you can just keep on performing over and over, as there will be a limit as to how many gimmicks you wanna take with, but it really is a nicely thought out method, and looks so fair. Pros: Practical. Workable. Ease of use. Normal borrowed water. Normal borrowed glass. Not restricted to using a glass... can be water bottle, cup etc etc. Something that will appeal to a lot of people... a LOT. I mean you turn water into beer... there's not really anything else needed to be said lol... it's a great effect. Though it's usually not good to perform an effect for the same specs more than once... this one is good for repeating... wake up in a new bed after each show (Of course I'm kidding... better to take them back to yours... then your not the one who has to get outta bed early and make your way home ... sorry... ok seriously... I'm just playin... you don't want them knowing where you live ... ok really now enough...) Cons: Well I can't really see any real cons to this as, well, considering the effect, it's about as workable and practicle as you can get. But if I was pushed into finding faults... Beer is alchol free (not sure if this is considered a con, but may mean something to some). You have to stand around watching everyone drinking, and getting free beers... lol, I really don't know any real cons. Difficlty: No problems here at all... this is not hard to perform, or to constrct the gimmick. This really is sitable for all skill levels as far as the workings. Teaching: I would say jayb does a fair job at teaching everything that goes into this... he explains everything well and is easily understood. Overall: A fantastic effect that is just so fun to use lol, it appeals to a lot of people and is something that will be enjoyed by many. I think it's great, and if you like the idea of being able to turn water into beer... well pick this up. Excellent effect here jayb. |

Hey John,
Thanks again for the excellent review, and I'm very happy that you like it. Thank God it's non alcaholic beer otherwise you would not be able to write this review. Just kidding. Thanks for the review! Cheers!

Blah I feel bad since I haven't written up a review yet. I have this DVD and watched it but have yet to buy the necessary materials to accomplish the effect. Like everyone has stated, the production quality isn't fantastic, but jayb covers all pertinent information in a clear and concise manner. I agree that this is a winner.
