I want to learn this routine and have a few questions about the props. I already have a set of fakini 1.75 in. white manipulation balls (3 balls and 1 s****) and was wondering what else I should order along with the DVD. From the McBride's World Class Manipulation I know that an extra s**** is used, but I'd rather have all the props needed so I can start learning right away. So, would any of you let me know what else I should get- extra balls of the same/different color, a flash-four production? Please PM me if you don't want to post here... thanks guys!

Only one part of the Shimada routine uses an extra s****. You need an extra for each hand. I learned and used these moves many years ago, but with wooden balls. The move requiring the extra s**** may prove difficuly with Fakini's, due to their locking feature. A loose-fitting s**** makes the move easier. There's always a catch, huh?
The good news is that many of the other Shimada moves (1 to 4; 4 to 1, etc.) can be done easily with Fakini's, and without anything other than a standard set. These moves are just for one hand, though, not an 8 ball routine. The flash four is probably the easilest 8 ball finish, not to mention less redundant, because it cuts to the chase. The Shimada 8 ball finish is good, too, because you go from one in each hand to 4 in each hand very quickly. But, you may experience some issues with that locking feature. ~michael

Thanks Michael! Are there any color changes taught?

I really don't remember! LOL (It's been years since I watched them) I'd have to go back and watch the vids again, but I don't think there are any color changes. I learned those mostly from books, and just jamming with the props.

I remember Michael doing his ball act at SEAM. I believe in Huntsville not sure. He was a very nice man then and still is. He introduced me to a great group called the ART OF NOISE. Thanks again Michael. I believe that was almost 20 years ago.

Yeah, that was the only time I did the 8 ball finish in front of a group of magicians. I also remember earlier in that routine, tossing a ball into the air, planning to catch it but losing it in a stage light. It came down, hit my wrist and went bouncing across the floor! Ha-ha! At least everyone knew they were wooden balls! I've learned to carry an extra ball, now!
So, Michael... you even recall the music? Wow! Yeah, it was about 20 years ago (and yes, it was Huntsville). A couple years later I was on the same show in Atlanta with Kevin James, and when I realized he was also using that music, I stopped. His act was much better than mine! (sigh...) ~michael

Hi,
Shimada has a great style on stage. I love his style during billard balls. He does the balls as real magic. The tecnique he uses can be learned from Dvds or some books may be. But there is a big problem. The balls that uses in that kind of act are very important. Wooden balls are good but they are small and not easy to use as Fakini Balls. I love Fakini Balls on stage because my hand loves them and when you drop one ball it bounces. So you can do a move like ball to silk by bouncing. It might be a good idea in a routine. You can buy Fakini balls from Stevens Magic easilly. There are many types of balls in there. http://www.stevensmagic.com magicially yours, Nedim Guzel |

I also have a set of 2 1/4" wooden pool balls that I made for myself, so they aren't all necessarily small. They are as you say, not as easy to use. I started using Fakini's about a year ago. Age has found me with dryer hands than before, and that contributes to more problems with wooden balls. I still do some of the Shimada stuff, but not the 8 ball finish.

Hi,
Wooden balls becomes hard to use after Fakini. But 8 ball finale is a great finale for a ball routine I think. magicially yours, Nedim Guzel |
