Dear brothers in Cups and balls world,

Would greatly appreciate some help here. I found these sets in ebay and was wondering if they are worth buying. I contacted the seller and was told that the manufacturer is Magic City. I did a search on the CnBMuseum by manufacturer, but these did not turn up.

Thanks in advance

These look like the Magic Makers cups in Brass but I could be wrong.

Nope. They are the Magic Makers table hopping cups. Magic Makers makes them for Penguin, but any magic dealer with an MM account can buy them.

I got one of the first sets in brass and one of the first sets in chrome. There are a number of flaws in these cups that need to be corrected.

One is that the metal work inside is rough. There are bumps and distortions in the cups.

Also the edge of the rolled bead on the mouth area is rough.

Sorry, my bad. It fooled me that they say these are "Penguin" cups in penguinmagic.

Pengiun are selling these as the 'Table Hopping Penguin Cups'. The picture from the eBay listing is the same as that used on Penguin's website.

I PM'd the seller a while back when they first came out on ebay... He stated to me they are not Magic Makers cups, however they were the same dimensions. He could have been lying but that's what he said...

If they are not MM cups, he is using the wrong picture.

You would be better off with Bazar de Magia's and they are reasonable priced Smile

Magic Makers makes almost all of Penguin's cups.

When do we expect ANY e-bay seller to know exactly what he is selling, anyway?

If the seller isn't John Mendoza or one of the other really savvy cup guys, you don't know what you are getting.

eBay is a classic example of the emptor having to caveat like crazy!

I'm actually looking for a cheapo practise set which I can whack and drop without feeling heartache. I have a JES Squatty set from MadJake. They now have a few nicks in it, and when I dropped it the other day I almost died. Smile
So, yeah, looking around for maybe a cheap penguin cups set to throw around.

Just read a message from the seller, they state that the dimensions are 3.25" height and mouth diameter is 2.75", which is different from the Table Hopping CnB from Penguin. So I guess the guy is using the wrong picture.

I bought a set of these for my son from this dealer. I've never had a set of brass magic maker cups, but I did get a set of the Penguins as a freebie. If, as I've heard, the Penguins are really Magic Makers in copper, these are quite different. They are light, fragile looking, next to no saddle. They cannot cover a Lacrosse ball, which the MM cups can, according to MM's promo stuff. They can, however, cover a Mike Rogers final load ball. I got my kid some racquetballs to use as loads.

They're good for the purpose I got them for...to give to my single-digit-age son so he can have a set of metal cups like Daddy uses, instead of his old plastic ones.

The sizes of these cups are all over the place. Some of the MM brass cups will take a lacrosse balls, others won't. There is also a chance that you got those table-hopping cups, which are not too good, but they are fine for a kid to play with.

Sometimes MM has some really funny copy on their site. For a couple of years, their listing said that the cups were 4" tall and 2 3/4" ID. Every time I saw a set on eBay, if he used their measurements, I would ask him if he had ever had a set of these out of the box. Sometimes, they would say that they had. Then I asked them to measure the cups.
