I know a lot has to do with the presentation,
I do one of the easiest mind reading effects (just need a pen and some paper), and have practiced it in public on waitresses etc.. just to see the response to my delivery, and their amazement, amazes me. (one walked around with her jaw dropped, telling co-workers of her that I just read her mind). My question is, I've picked up two great books on learning the tarot and one on palm reading, what is your feelings on what one receives the greatest response. I have a hunch that it's palm reading. Also with palm reading, can one give answer's to questions, like one can do with the Tarot? Thank You in advance Ed

Howdy Ed --
I don't read palms, but I've read books by readers of palms, and it certainly appears that if the seeker tells you a question that has been troubling her, you can adapt your reading of her hand's attributes to support a reasonable answer. As for one's advantages over the other: in walkaround situations, palmistry truly has the upper hand (so to speak), in that you don't need table space. But it also can suffer from a lack of ceremony that gives mystery and validity to a tarot reading. Also, with tarot it is probably easier to give an extended reading, as the symbols can be elaborated upon so readily. Personally, when I can use a table I use the tarot; when I do walkaround I do Chinese Numerology (which has the added benefit of putting your business card into your seeker's hand). I hope this helps! Talk to you soon, Neil

I work both as a palmist and a tarot reader. Both forms of divination are equally effective and mysterious in their own ways. Both disciplines answer questions and offer insights that can prove to be both illuminating and entertaining. As Necromancer said before, palmistry is perhaps more easily adapted to mobile performance; however, almost all of my venues enable me to use either system that suits my client and myself.

I use both and chinese numerolgy with a little bit of handwriting analysis thrown in!
Palm reading is good for getting deep rapport with someone anywhere anytime. Touch can also be used to anchor positive responses which can be fired later. Good thing about palm reading is you can practice it anywhere. Just try it in a bar or public place and females line up. You have try this to beleive the attraction it has. But when you have the time and space why not combine three or more methods. I find sometimes being asked to do a reading impromptu and have a number of methods at my disposal means I'm always ready to create "entertainment". Really cheap fast cold reading with numerology is Richard Websters "Quick Redings with numerology" excellent booklet Palm Reading "quick and effective Cold reading" again Webster Tarot there are lots around with tarot but if you want to get a basic start fast Joe Ridings 7 day video course is good. Then its easier to start learning the tarot in depth after. Handwriting: The Grapho Deck by Bart Baggart. This is a deck of cards with handwriting traits on them. They are really good you can carry them around and ask for samples of handwriting and compare them to the cards. You won't need them at all after a while and they are really good. He does more advanced courses if you want to get into that inmore depth but for general readings they are fine. you'll get them from http://www.myhandwriting.com |

Hi Ed,
I prefer palmistry (with Webster's approach from the aforementioned book) because touch is involved. Knowing how to give quick readings based on playing cards also pays off -- especially when you're performing a mental effect that utilizes them. And like Shrink, I also use some Chinese Numerology. If you don't mind my asking, what is the effect (not the secret) for the pen & paper mind reading demonstration you have performed at restaurants? You've piqued my curiosity. - Richard |

Tarot has an advantage in the fact that it's not 'abstract;' the querent can more easily relate to the images on the cards and see where you are coming up with your interpretation. This is very useful in the 'counseling' session following a reading, when you encourage more interaction between you and the querent, and start working with the issues raised by the reading itself.
In palm reading, the querent has to take it completely on faith that you know what you're talking about. On the other hand (!), you can perform palmistry ANYWHERE at a moment's notice, and the touch factor does build a better rapport.

Ok, it's about to hit the fan: since any oracle is interpreted by the reader, anything can be used to give a "reading". For example, a fold of skin, the color of eyes, the knot in a tie, or a shoelace (I love the story about the fellow in California who has his clients pee into a cup, and then splashed the urine on a wall, and "reads" it as it runs down!).
Which of the two oracles do you think is better at not answering questions? After all, you are stepping into another person's fate/destiny/karma if you start telling them what they should and shouldn't do (no one else addressed this matter, so...) All of the "pro" readers quickly point out that you should do no harm (so, then, do you take out all of the nasty-looking cards from your Tarot deck?), and never actually give advice (something about being legally responsible for their bad choices!). If you want to take the time to learn them both, do it. If you want mystery, use an arcane Tarot deck, something with images that can be everything from spooky to demonic to fun to sensual. If you want to "touch" them personally, do palmreading. But study your oracle thoroughly. Don't just glance over a book on cold-reading and then go out to try to impress people. This kind of advice gets people in trouble, in the hospital, and sometimes in the grave. Still reading? Good! Find someone in your area that the average customer knows about (as an authority in your chosen oracle) and go ask them what to read and study. Most likely, they will help you on your path (they all believe in karmic retribution, and, as such, won't screw you). And subscribe to Philemon's wonderful publication OORT (he'll tell you all about it, but might not mention why they're not coming to me in the mail anymore -hint hint!!) <grin> Lee |

They always asks, "What is it?" and the bait is, "Mind reading." Well then I have her move to where she and I can look directly into each other's eyes. I pull out three sheets of paper and then tell her I want her to think of someone's name, without telling me. Then I give that straight stare into her eyes with my blue eyes. I then write down what she is thinking. I then fold the paper and ask what name she was thinking of. She responds and I follow it with a, "Hmmmm - Ok now think of a number," and follow it with the same routine, folding the paper and then asking her what the number was. Then I follow that as above, then ask her to think of a color, let's say, "Blue or Orange" and follow it with the same routine--folding the paper and asking her to name the color. If I was correct with the color, I hand her all 3 folded papers (with a swift mixing 1st), and let her read what I wrote. If I'm wrong with the color, I tilt my head with a look like I'm dissapointed in myself (this is a sympathy getter)and then hand her the folded papers (with a swift mix 1st). In either case, when what I wrote is read, the hook has been set. I sometimes follow it up with a little telekinesis, the metal chain catching a free falling metal ring effect (learned the effect at SAM #3 and added it as a telekinesis effect). Ed
