Do you guys pay upfront or half as a deposit then the other half when the item is finished?I'm looking at buying a few illusions from a fairly new company with mixed reviews.
These aren't custom illusions per say. |

I think usualy the seller makes the rules, but I would push for 50% deposit and the rest on completion.

That is the best way and the most often way it is done. I would ask for pictures and a video showing the prop in work. IMHO

Thanks. I was thinking %50 down was probably best but I wanted to make sure it was customary so I didn't offend anyone.

As a Illusion builder in the UK, I only take 20% deposit, this just makes sure that the magician is 100% committed to buying the illusion, and will not change his mind. The remainder of the balance is payable on collection of the illusion, or just before the illusion is shipped.

I've worked with two of the biggest building names in the industry and each time both of them wanted 50% down (metal and payroll is expensive). They then wanted the remainder before the prop was shipped. Don't be surprised at this, but do use reputable builders. Because, there are many nightmare stories of money put down to bad "builders" who never delivered the prop.
Best of luck. |
