I was somewhat dissapointed, I had heard of keith all good things, but for me there was something missing, I remember the Paul Daniel's halloween special from some yrs ago, the tension that was built up and the ending, classic!, that said congratulations to Keith for getting a great spot on mainstream tv, I just personally felt there were to many mixes of styles.

I watched it and was a bit disappointed by the escape. I think he still came across ok.. One thing I did notice though was that when he did the 4 of hearts trick with the word, he laid the wrong card on the box to do the flash change to the right card, and across the side of the box was written 4 of hearts almost as if it was there to prompt him. Also the trick with Dean Gaffeney where he switched the note was very obvious. There was good effects too though, especially his version of the Wizard book test. I believe he is now contracted with ITV so it will be interesting to see the next installment.

I personally thought it was awful.
the interspersed performance segments were generally unoriginal, and occasionally just plain bad. the finale was clumsy, and mark durden- smith came across simply as an awkward spare wheel, maybe mr. barry thought that a d list celebrity would give his show an air of importance, but I didn't like it at all. just my tuppence... chr!s

I can only agree with you regarding the escape, for me personaly I would like to have seen him miked up then he could have really added some drama, with a couple of seconds to go he could have said something like just the one foot to, ***, almost th!!!!!! bang, instant drama

I thought it wasn't bad, nothing special, but not bad. My only gripe, was he did all regular effects, many of which are performed by most Magicians these days. Either people will have seen them before...or now when we are performing, people will be saying 'Hey, I saw that man do that on Tv!'
One thing I have preferred about most other TV Magicians is they perform effects which aren't available to buy for some time, or just won't ever be released |

Funny you should mention Paul Daniels. That is who I thought of when Keith was in the shed. The ending was pure Cyril!
Amazing how D list 'celebs'will do anything to get on television. I too would have loved to have seen something that can't be bought at a magic shop.

I think that's a bit harsh on Mark, to be fair he kept interjecting with recaps whereas Keith seemed to want to rush through it.
If it's anyones fault for it being a d-list celebrity it is the channel for booking him. mescalito

I think I'm thinking of an episode of the old Paul Daniels show where a camera man
[and camera!] were put into a garden shed and exploded [well a loud bang] Both were gone.I loved the old Paul Daniels show when John Fisher was the adviser.I think Keith rushes through things because he has difficulty keeping people interested. When I say 'D' list celebs I'm really saying why is a magic trick better or more credible if someone from a pop band helps out? Anyone see the great Ricky Gervais in 'Extras' last week? He basically said 'Celebs' are just people who are to lazy to get a real job!

Its funny the climax illusion is the same one used on CBBC's The Sorcerer's Apprentice including the same method even. Magician gets tied up and locked in a sealed box, workman secure the box then run away to safety, some pyrotechnics signals the decreasing countdown, box explodes, magician vanishes and appears high up far away. As seen on both shows.
Not a bad effort for a first 1 hour special. Blindfold Drive was done by Criss Angel on TV - not that he was the only guy to have ever done this. I just think for a new face to do a 1 hour special... well. if he performed magic that was never aired on TV before that would have been a big plus for him. Not bad for a first ITV special. Who were the consultants? I missed the credits.

The Paul daniels special I was refering to was the Halloween special where he was burned as a Witch when his robes caught fire the screen went black and the show ended suddenly, lots of complaints from worried viewers, but by god what a showman, perhaps that's whats missing from tv magic these days a real showman someone who the audiance can relate too

I believe that Dan Harlan was a key consultant on his American special last year. Perhaps he was also involved with this one(?)

If Alakazam were consultants I'm surprised the thought capture didn't get an airing.

Keith came across as a likeable guy. From a public point of view his tricks were hit and miss, that is, some went over better than others. As a fellow magician I don't think he presented anything outstanding but I don't think it was a poor performance either. I was however disappointed by the escape. There was a lot of scope to create a great deal of tension but it never really made it. The timing of the climax was terrible and a bit of a disappointment in my opinion. However, well done to Keith for making it to TV land.
