I am technically in your SYM group too. I showed up to one of the meetings, and I have to see it was a huge letdown. The meeting seemed very disorganized and more like a "do your own thing" type of thing. I may decide to show up for another meeeting, but the entire disorganization thing really got to me. I live in NJ and its an 1 hour 1/2 drive for my mom to take me there and I have to say I may not come back again. It just didn't seem worth the drive for an entire disorganized meeting. Maybe it was just the meeting I went to, but I have a feeling most of the meeting are just "go with the flow". I have absolutely nothing against those who run this meeting, just stating my opinion. I am only 14 and want stick with this magic thing and I thought these meetings would help- I think I was wrong.

Evan, maybe you can sit down with the advisors and explain to them what you would like to see in the way of a magic club meeting. A few ideas from the membership helps the adult advisors plan better programs.

Maybe. When I walked in there was like no magic atmosphere at all. There were 7 and 8 year olds running around. I was misinformed about many of the meeting's details. Like, the ending time. I was told it ended at 8:15 and I left at 9:30 and it was still going on. There was like no magic at the meeting. Just kids running around and stuff. Didn't seem worth the drive and the membership fee for me. Just didn't Not sure what I am gonna do, it's the only assembly near me.

Hi Evan,

I am sorry you felt that way about the meeting. we always strive to have something of fun and interest for all the members and guests that attend our meetings.

Assembly 96 has been meeting for 15 years, and has been very successful. We have had many members move on to the SAM and also go on to professional careers in magic. We also have many former members come back and be mentors for the current members sharing their love and passuion for the art.

We feature about 10 lectures a year with magicians from around the Philadelphia area donating there time to come in and teach magic. In the past we have featured the Dean of the SAM George Shindler, current First Vice president Mike Miller and Past National President Dick Gustafson. Some full time magicians we have had include Mike Snyder, Sam Sandler, Bob Little, Chris Capehart and many others. We have also had many part time professionals come in and spend time with the group.

These are folks who donate their time to teahc and lecture for an evening with hands on workshop and a lot of great and useful information that our members gain a lot from.

I am not sure which meeting you attended and that is fine. No problems at all. One thing that we try to make people aware of is the fact that the SYM club has to tailor it's needs to ages 7-17 years. Within this age level we also have those who know no magic and those who know quite a lot of magic. So we try and have meetings that are structured enough so that everyone can go home with something of value that will help them learn, have fun and be better performers.

Within the scope of the year, we also have meetings that are indeed a little more laid back in approach. This is often times after our big stage show we put on in October, around Christmas with our Holiday fun night and also around some holidays and towards the beginning of summer break around June. These are so that we can take a break and so that the members and their families can enjoy time together and sharing magic and fun as a group.

We try as best as we can within the co-leaders and adult parents to create a fun meeting every time out. Some our more successful then others but it is always a learning experience and one win which we strive to do the very best that we can.

We apologize if the meeting that night was not to your liking or not what you had in mind. The SYM may not appeal to everyone and that is perfectly ok. Everyone has to make their own decisions as to what they personally feel about it and if it is right for them. We just wanted to give you some more information about the club and let you also know that we do take people's feedback to heart.

thank you and have a very Happy New year in 2008.
