Does anyone know the originator of this illusion?

The first of its kind using that principle seems to be Thayer's X-Ray Double Box illusion (1928). The bar principle was then used in Chev Thorne's "The Chamber Illusion" using a Green Art mask. The Slat Jumbo Card Frame is attributed to Harlan Tarbell, using that same principle and no mask. The first published account I can find where the illusion bears the name of "The Phantom Cargo Cage Illusion" is Paul Osborne's 1982 version published in Genii magazine, but within the article, he admits that it is already an "old" illusion at that time, but does not name an inventor.
