This book test that Greg and Co. have produced is, in actuallity more than "one" book test, but is an excellent combination of several different effects using the same book. The methodology behind this is clever and is well worth the purchase price. The main reason that I like this test, is that ANY book can be used, no switching covers, no fear of anyone seeing the forced word/number etc. It's very well put together. Too bad there's not a fourm devoted to this effect, the sharing of performing ideas by those who are using it, would be of immence value. |

For the book test in my show I use Ordeix's version, which is made of a very simple gimmick that costs no more than a couple of cents to make.
The good news is that it works with borrowed books, so you don't need to have special and expensive book tests. And the audience reaction is absolutely great! Yours, Giovanni. |

Delighted to see this thread resurrected. Since I joined the Café just last fall I had not seen or been aware of this lengthy thread until Giovanni brought it back to life today. As I am sure many of you who share my interest in book tests are aware, I have posted numerous comments on the subject over the past few months and have all but a very few of those mentioned in this thread in my collection and am actively pursuing the acquistion of those that I don’t already own.
At least one of the posts I noticed in the thread suggested that a list of all the published book tests would be nice to have. I have been researching the genre for many years and have devoted over 5 years so far to compiling just such a list, with appropriate amplifying information about each, for an enclyclopedic reference work on the history and evolution of book tests and forcing books that I am hoping to have ready for publication some time in 2011. This is a formidable undertaking as I estimate that at least 2,500 -- and perhaps as many as twice that number -- have been published in English alone. To even post a list of the nearly 1,000 that I have in my personal collection to a forum such as this would be impractical; however, if any readers have specific questions (short of asking for exposure of the “secret”) of any of the tests mentioned in this thread, or any others that I might be familiar with, I will be happy to provide such information as I can to those with a legitimate need to know. You can contact me either by PM here or, better yet, by a note to my primary e-mail address gr8magik@aol.com

One of my favorites is Harvey Berg's, Ne Plus Ultra. To me it really hits the mark for a mind reading effect. It's currently my #1 Worker. I also like The Shakespeare Experiment but have not used it in performance yet.

As with many, I have a great fondness for book tests and one of the most useful works I have found on the subject, with excellent ideas, methods and thoughts on getting the most impact is Alain Nu's Word Work. I particularly recommend Vol 1.

Most of the workers realized that a lot of people that bought it never put in the work it takes to create the book for themselves. Therefore, there's not many doing it out there so its stays a bit unique. Thanks again. greg

Does anyone perform a full audience book test, where some members of the audience might be able to divine the target word, too? I don't know how practical it would be, since what I'm envisioning would require me to pass out duplicate booklets to everyone to share in the process. I've come across a way to accomplish the feat and I am considering developing it further, I was just curious to see if anyone was already doing something similar. Thanks!
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.
