I really enjoy Eugene Burger's thoughts on magic and am extremely excited to see this disc. I'll post more comments once I have received the disc and viewed it.
Thanks! Barry |

Got mine finally!
If you have ever been to a Eugene Burger lecture, then this will be very familiar. I was actually a little disappointed, I didn't feel that it was as good as his actual lectures in that a lot of details that I have learned from him were not there. Also, I wasnt impressed with the "Out of this World" presentation. Just my opinion. Not anything new in tricks, but all in all, if you havent seen his lecture, this is a good buy. |

It is a wonderfu DVD. I've not finished watching all of it but so far Eugene is on his game, and I love Eugene. It is great to see the ever so lovely Ms. McBride.

I've spent a pretty good amount of time with Eugene and I didn't find this lacking in any way. Although, that probably shows a bit of bias, sure. Still. . . great dvd.

This is a great DVD, lots of presentation ideas and great teaching by Mr. Burger. I especially love Fading Coins. It's such a quick and impromtu trick that can be performed anywhere. Highly recommend this DVD for anyone who is looking for new ways to present their magic.

As with almost all of Eugene's work, I love this dvd. It clearly demonstrates the differing ways that any one piece can be presented, and clearly shows how a properly presented piece of magic can have so much more impact than any 'trick'.
The actual effects taught are excellent as well, but this dvd is about the theory of presentations. Eugene's teaching is wonderful. Great stuff. |

This is a must have DVD. The methods are simple. The presentations are simple. He makes it all look so simple. But it's more magical than just about anything you'll see - even if you know how it's done.
It is an enlightening and rejuvenating experience. Jim |

What makes Eugene's OOTW effective: a new method ( or is it Grant's version as Mac said ) or the presentation?

It is based on Grants version. It is just a nice OOTW that is nicely routined and shows solid magical thinking.

I didn't really like it. What is the purpose of shuffling the deck, just to fan the cards and select the cards you want to use? All the shuffling and then you pick cards from various places in the deck?
After reviewing the dvd again, I have to say that I do believe it is a great dvd, as I am a huge Eugene Burger fan. You will learn from him! I just didn't care for his version of O.O.T.W. |

How do they compare to the Magical Voyages DVDs? I was thinking of getting them as a gift for Mark Ennis, who is a huge fan of Burger.

I just finished watching this DVD and I loved it. Another gem. I would put this side by side with "The Al Schneider Technique Volume 1"

I don't think I could pick a favorite Eugene video if you held a gun to my head. This one is good, Magical Voyages are good, the older ones are good, too. Can't pick. Any would make an exceptional gift, especially to someone who appreciates Eugene.

I Haven't seen the DVD yet but hope to get it soon. I have done an impromptu version of OOTW based on the Grant version for decades. It is quite inexplicable.
"I didn't really like it. What is the purpose of shuffling the deck, just to fan the cards and select the cards you want to use? All the shuffling and then you pick cards from various places in the deck?" Starting with a shuffled deck is where most spectators expect to start with any card game or demonstration of magic or mentalism and to not do so seems out of place. Destroying any notions of a set-up or that you knew something about those cards ahead of time is the purpose. At teh end, the salient point that is remembered is that the participant chooses where each card goes. And the performer only removes some of the cards. The remainder are still in teh same order that they were shuffled in to. No. It is not completely logical to shuffle, nor is it logical to have a borrowed used deck shuffled at all since you can't know where any cards are anyway. But starting with a shuffled deck is the expected starting point. IN the version I use, a spectator is handed the cards and deals a number of cards into each pile as they choose. True, I have removed some cards, but the rest are left in the order that they started in. Moreover, I don't do the whole deck, so the rest is in random shuffled disarray. The illogic of shuffling has not been a major point. This is a strong demonstration. |

Got the DVD yesterday and have watched both Inevitability and Fading Coins. Both are excellent. Even if the other three routines were duds, which I'm sure they're not, this DVD would be a great buy. I especially enjoyed watching Eugene perform Fading Coins and offering his thoughts and handling. I too discovered this routine a number of years ago in Genii magazine and thought it to be a very clever routine using no real sleights, but just clever handling and presentation. A must have for fans of Eugene and for those not familiar with, if that's possible, Eugene's work.

Rowdy, the shuffling (or use of a deck previously known to be shuffled) eliminates a method in the spectators mind, that being that the cards were stacked. The use of half the deck in the separation and leaving the other half mixed will also remove a method. Both are moves to make the magic stronger where it already exist...in the mind of the spectator.

I think the point of this dvd is being missed. The effects are indeed wonderful. But, the real treasure in this is being able to peek inside Eugene's thinking process.
