Hi All,
The BLUE CRYSTAL from Tenyo is a unique prop. The illusion it creates is unbelievable. Here is a fantastic effect using the Blue Crystal. Place a simple wedding ring on the surface. Lower the ring slowly. The ring sinks into the so called blue gel with a visually stunning effect. I found the above effect to be one of the finest. Blue Crystal users, any other Ideas/suggestions? From India With Regards. :xmas: CHEERS!! P.S. I have already submitted the above effect and has been put on the Tenyoworld by Angelo Carbone (Tips & Routines section). http://www.tenyoworld.co.uk/

Not lacking imagination, necessarily, just the desire to buy Tenyo's plastic props...

Hi Scott,
Ahh! Some input. I enjoy reading your posts. They are well written and to the point. You seem (or are you) to be a collector of Tenyo props. I would like to have your opinion on the Blue Crystal. Regards, USTAAD

I have some Tenyo props, although I only actually use one of them--"Parabox."
I don't have the Blue Crystal. Never heard of it, actually. More info?

Hi Scott,
I can say that you have missed out on one of the best tricks that Tenyo has ever produced. A little box which contains a solid blue crystal inside. I call it the solid blue gel. Put a coin on the surface of the crystal and slowly the coin sinks into the solid crystal block. The coin then slowly rises back to the surface. The effect is clean with no complex moves. The interesting part is, even though you know how the trick is done, you don't know how it works! I can't explain it in words. You need to see the product. A special printing technology does it all. I like the effect, but really don't perform it very often, as it isn't (IMHO) strong enough to really stand by itself, and it doesn't fit well into anything else I do.
But the effect and the method of the illusion keeps me looking at it - from time to time. In curious wonder. But not in amazed wonderment. I don't care if an effect is plastic or paper, chrome or tin, if it works for what I am trying to do. I will use it. In Tenyo, I use the Tenyo nested boxes a lot, but have a couple of more Tenyo things that will never see the light of day. Until I get organized enough to find the instructions so I can sell them. But the Blue Crystal effect is really good, and I agree that you look at it and say; I see what happens, but why does that work that way??? BroDavid

Blue Crystal is, indeed, a fascinating piece of work.
But it works best one-on-one; it is very angly. VERY angly. In fact, if you do it at the wrong angle, it appears as if nothing is happening. It's more of a solution looking for a problem than a piece of magic. cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

Hi Peter,
I agree with you that The Blue Crystal works best one-on-one (VERY angly) and more of a solution looking for a problem than a piece of magic. But working one-on-one and with the correct angles the effect is just "FANTASTIC". Regards, :xmas: USTAAD

Ustaad, that's true.
Even after you see it, and know how it works, you still don't believe it. Now, let's come up with a use for this wonderful piece! cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

How about this:
Since it's angly, and one-on-one demanding, why not use it to demonstrate your ability to "hypnotize" just ONE person from the group? In other words, let's say that you are using a "mass hypnosis" patter for your Professor's Nightmare routine (or any other routine). First you demonstrate your ability to make just one person see an impossibility (the crystal penetration) that none of the other people standing around him/her can see; you have the victim describe in detail that they are seeing the object sink into the "mysterious crystal". Meanwhile, the other viewers are in agreement that nothing out of the ordinary is happening. Then you explain that similar hypnotic technique can be used on an entire crowd, as you will now proceed to demonstrate... Probably not useable for a formal show, but it might be very effective in a more social surrounding such as table-hopping. Regards, Thomas Wayne

All that is said on Blue Crystal is true the angleness alos....
Anyhow, I like the visual aspects on it. My brother said after watching it, that to his opinion it looks better without the blue foil.... matter of taste I'd say... To answer your question about ideas: Proof the crystal to be soft jelly, by sinking a ring or a coin into it visible for the spec. Then "steal" it instantly (Raven?) and prove the mass to be solid. How do you like it? Greets Mandrake

I think all of the Tenyo items for the most part require some serious thought on how to present them as most of them look weird. However, the effect with most of them can be stunning and are fun to show off when people come to the house.

I hate to be negative, but Blue Crystal made the top of my "worst trick ever purchased" list. I just don't get how anyone would be amazed by it. And what do you say when they want to examine it as anyone who had even the slightest interest in the illusion would demand a good look at it. To me, this one ranks up there with Tenyo's finger removal trick. Any additional thoughts, ustaad, on how I could use this would be appreciated. Angelo Carbone is a great creator. I don't know if this is what you were suggesting, but as far as I know, he had nothing to do with Blue Crystal. Carbone's Prison Box and Out of Order are brilliant. As puzzles to have sitting around the house or office, they're perfect.

Hello friend Platt,
My post, Posted: Feb 21, 2002 10:55am, the last Para reads:- "The interesting part is, even though you know how the trick is done, you don't know how it works! I can't explain it in words. You need to see the product. A special printing technology does it all." That's the reasons this particular prop stands out in the crowded Tenyo line of products. Very few Close Up magic props out there are perfectly manufactured and can be said to be cent percent perfect in all respect. That is to say, they have considered all aspects of magic with relation to the prop (shape, size, weight, etc), the secret, it's flawless working, method of presentation, patter, before & after examination of the prop and so on. The Blue Crystal also has its drawbacks, they are (mainly two):- (a) Peter Marucci has very correctly brought out that "works best one-on-one; it is very angly" (b) A clever locking mechanism should have been provided to lock the slide (those who have worked with the Blue Crystal will understand) before it could be given out for examination to the spectator/s. As regards to your question "Any additional thoughts, ustaad, on how I could use this would be appreciated". Well I had posted a fine two-in-one effect and had named it "Double Surprise". The Magic Cafe staff, in their best judgment, thought it was giving/ going to give away too much in the General Forum and hence deleted the post. The "Double Surprise" presentation has now been sent to Angelo Carbone, who has informed me that it will be included in the 'Blue Crystal - Tips & Routines section'. Certainly, Angelo Carbone is a great creator and inventor. My suggestion to Mandrake was to send his wonderful new idea for inclusion in the 'Blue Crystal - Tips & Routines section'. The Blue Crystal was invented by Lubor Fiedler, an Austrian. FROM INDIA WITH REGARDS, :xmas: USTAAD. CHEERS!!

Be careful who you perform this "supposed" mysterious effect for. I only have one good eye and so the entire "illusion" fails to work on me at all. When it was demo'd for me I was totally unimpressed as I couldn't see anything magical happening. All I could see was a ring going into a box the effect of this being some sort of magic Jello was completely lost on me.

I have had that happen for a whole group of kids. Only one or two saw the illusion and the rest just wanted to grab the box.
Before Blue Crystal came out, Greg Webb wrote an article on Allmagic about the prototype for this trick. It sounded a lot better. The card penetrates the glass, but the pips fall to the floor leaving the card blank. He said it reinstilled a love of magic in him. James

I once had a dream where I had my own blue crystal like ice skating arena. I made myself sink into it and rise back, then goto everyone to come down and walk on it. Kinda strange eh?
