I start Zodiac as a challenge, as a curiosity. I don't play the role of a soothsayer but as a Curator (as usual) who just "lecture" about divination. Zodiac is not a "trick" but an experience, also as usual, I play low profile.
I've an introduction about divination with examples of African oracles and speak about 2 basic divination systems. One using only Dream images (Intuition) the other using Divination tools. And I propose a little experiment. The Dream system leads to the prediction card in the center of the chart. Then I start turning cards from the layout face up and read what I see until last card, when I give the subject's zodiac sign and birthday. I don't use palm reading or any other system than the cards. I try to keep it simple, entertaining and visual... Reproducing theatrically the experience you should have if someone really reads cards for you. I let the spectators make their own conclusions. After Zodiac I go either into Oracle or The Immortal. The marked cards helps guessing the zodiac sign without the need of turning up the correct card. I feel it's very important to have harmony between the various tools you use. In this case: the right cards with the right chart. |

He has the perfect set-up - a totally credible, believable character, and all the "hauntiques" would could ever dream of. I can just imagine how this above scenario plays out, with an "innocent" curator basically saying, "Hey, why don't we try playing around with this a little and just see what happens - I really have no idea what, if anything, will happen, but my curiosity has gotten the better of me. Are you game?" I love the credibility factor. The Curator has it in spades, both due to his own talent, his character, and the awesome props. M. Fraughton's zodiac chart is a perfect example of a perfect prop. There's an old saying, "The clothes make the man". It is not entirely accurate, of course, (an idiot in 3 piece Versace is still an idiot, albeit a sharp looking one) but it's general meaning is understood. To that end, I'd almost venture to say, "The props make the magician" - - But when put that way, it rubs most of us the wrong way, as it should. Really what I mean of course, is that they merely empower the magician, rather than "make" him. It's one thing to look the part, another to "be" the part, but naturally, the best combination is to both "be" the part (character), and look the part(props), as well. It seems a good time to reiterate (particularly to the newer members among us - I see there are quite a few now) that props like this are the best in the trade - and plastic bats and silly fake looking skulls are for kids and Halloween.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

Thanks for your response Curator!
Your persona is unique and your approach to this gem called "Zodiac" that you have created is fully in keeping with that persona. This approach is yours alone, as it should be (to the envy of us all!). Thanks again for your comments. Andre

Michael,
As you seem to do so often- You really set some fantastic standards for not only magic but for Art as an art form- I've always wanted to own one of these mystical charts- and as I look back upon the past - hmmmmm I always will... (big smile) Scar |

My chart arrived today. It is a work of art. I am very happy with it. I'm trying to figure out the perfect deck to use with it now.
What is the color of magic?

Received mine recently as well. What a beautiful thing; truly a work of art. I can't wait to burn a candle, crack open a deck of cards and stun someone into silence...

Just when I thought Michael's chart was perfect...he makes it even more beautiful by using delicate watercolor touches. I will resist upgrading. I will resist...I will...
Hmmm, perhaps it would be wise to have a new chart with my present chart safely put away as a backup, justified as fire insurance. After all, I do use a candle in my presentation. "Excellent Idea, Mrs. Hagen, don't you agree?" (My wife does not nod in agreement but at least she doesn't say "No".) What she does say is: "The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys!" That doesn't mean "No"...does it? Andre

I have (finally) obtained a source for printing on cloth. What types of cloth would interest you the most?
Beware of this and that.

I am a potential buyer for this beautiful chart and the more I read about it the more interested I am becoming. Printing on cloth would be the icing on the cake for the chart.Silver on black silk would be nice! Gold on morrocan blue might also work. One might then use the cloth to wrap up the gypsy or tarot deck as per tradition.
Best wishes. Andy. |

Leather appeals most to me too, partly because it's less reminiscent of modern New Age paraphernalia. (How old is the tradition of keeping tarot cards in cloths -- or wooden boxes for that matter?)

Merlin, the following might interest you taken from the internet. I think you might well be right.LOL.
"Do I have to keep my Tarot deck wrapped in silk?" No. Some teachers of Tarot explain that you must keep the deck wrapped in silk, and in a special box. In truth, you use Tarot as a catalyst for your own psychic mind. While it is true that the deck will inherit your own aura's energy, or “vibrations,” such energies are not fragile. How you interact with the world, especially on a psychic level, strongly influences how you may want to keep your deck. If you love finery, you may want to keep your deck in silk or velvet. If you are inclined to the mystical, you may keep a deck in a special box. VELVET now there's another idea.(!) Best wishes Andy. |

If nothing else (which, of course there is), the little ritual of wrapping and unwrapping or removing from a box is relaxing and allows you to relate more easily to the task at hand. Bill, I agree with you.My post was made tongue in cheek. My inclination is still to go with silk as I think it simply makes sense.

Andy, I agree that silk is probably best.
