Hi All
I have decided its time to add a new 'big' effect to the end of my kids show. I have previously been doing Chair Suspension or Flying Carpet for younger audiences, and Lester Lake Chopper or Head Zopper for older crowds. However, its got to the stage where I've done them to death and want a change. Any ideas anybody? I'm pretty much open to anything. Something that would work universally with older and younger kids would be great but if not, I'm mainly looking at something for the 4-8 groups. Thanks in advance Mark

Mark,
Can you let us know some criteria for what you are looking for? Is their a certain size of object you want? Looking for an illusion vs. a magic prop? Any amount you want to pay for this? Kyle

Hey Kyle
Sorry I was a little vague. I'm looking for something as portbale as the effects I mentioned. Looking for something under £500, not opposed to buying second hand and spending time on. Yes looking for more an illusion/illusionette. I have also been using a Head Balloon Dagger Chest but blowing up 17 balloons before each show isn't very practical as I found! Mark

Mark,
No problem at all my friend. This certainly gives me a better idea of what you are looking to add to the show. One thing that comes to my mind is some of the stuff being put out by Creative Magic. There stuff (if familiar with them) is set up to pack down very small, easy to carry and sets up in a breeze. Not sure on all the prices for their stuff, but a visit to their site would get you that information. Might be worth looking into. Hope this helps for starters. Kyle

Thanks Kyle
Will have a look into their products. Any other suggestions - keep them flooding in!! By the way, another thingI should have mentioned is that I would prefer to use an adult or audience member with no training as opposed to taking an assistant. Thanks Mark

Aww another idea then would be Ken Scott's "Instant Magician". A great prop that again packs down flat, uses an assistant from the audience and gets you a lot of great reactions. It certainly could be used as a closer and can be used at kid's shows as well as more adult or even coporate functions.

Creative magic is a bit pricey - but is good stuff. Ken's Instant magician is fun, priced very nice, but is not an illusion. I have a friend who should be marketing a really great lev. next year. I know I am excited. You may want to try a chicken sword - not really an illusion either - but a lot lighter. Wolf makes one that looks nice. I am looking at getting the broom thru body. The "Frame" works good for stage - both by Peter Loughran. All these are good for all age groups - you just adjust your patter and presentation.

I do like Ken Scott's Instant Magician, but its not really the kind of big ending I'm after (although I'm a little uncertain myself!). Creative Magic have some really good products. I've seen the Shadow Tent up close and have to say its brilliant, but things like the tent and the Arabian Tent effects require an assistant to be 'in on it', which is what I'm trying to avoid. Any other suggestions? I have spent hours looking and racking my brain but have not come up with much so far...

I do not think you should ever end a show using an assistant. It's awkward.
How about a series of productions from a SUPER LARGE square circle illusion or tip over chest set to music, and ending with a large "THE END" silk? It's very effective if you can synch it to the music and have that huge silk pop out at the very high ending note of a good piece of music. |
