You've just reminded me that I have a Rama deck somewhere I've never gotten into using! I think I'll get it out and have a play.
For a long time, all I've been using is the stripper (even fro ungaffed work), the ID and Oracle. |

All good ones..would also add "PHIL" and the "Blank PHIL" is great for customizing for special shows. I used to use the Dekram Deck but have found the Gambler's Deck by Houdini's to be far superior..it's marked, stripped and in Bicycle. Also the "Casino Deck" has been fun to play with.

Fade In Deck by Kuniyasu Fujiwara. This is a real great effect. I recently dug this out of the old trunk. I bought it from Hollywood Magic in '91. The effect is kind of like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otlzdwg1FiU. But the spectator chooses a card and the cards change to the choosen card through a spread. If anyone has this effect let me know.
Posted: Mar 3, 2008 5:09pm The url is not working. To find the video do a search on Youtube for Fujiwara Magic. The video title is in Japanese, 5th and 7th link down. |

The URL is malformed because it includes the period at the end. Here it is:

There's a good list of gaffed decks mentioned here. Thanks to everyone who have posted so far, and those who will continue to add. I have collected quite a few over the past couple of decades (some used more often than others), and some have been used so much I have replaced them (or re-made them) many times, as I am sure many other folks may have done with their favorites. Many of these items are simply variations of each other (or older creations). I'll try to list some more here (no particular order) without duplicating what has already been listed (forgive me if I accidentally repeat some):
-Devil's Deck (from Tarbell) used to be one of my favorite magician foolers right out of one of the last Tarbell books. -Orbital Deck (Trevor Lewis) -Proton Deck -Grandpa's Deck (I know many folks will remember that one) -the deck used for Peter Duffie's "Gone" or "Discombobulation" -Tel-o-matic deck -Psychomatic deck -The Discovery Pack (Peter Duffie).. I've always loved this one and always used it as a "compatibility test" for the love birds in the audience. -Wipe Out deck (Peter Duffie) -Detour de Force (John Bannon) -Bruce Bernstein's Psi Deck -Force of Thought deck... Short rant: Although I personally did not get along with this deck and rarely ever used it, it was the inspiration for me to devise a method for achieving the same effect with a regular deck, a method that I have been using for years now, which is more reliable (for me) than using the gaffed deck (reliability or not being "sure-fire" was the reason why I didn't "get along with it"... go figure, it's a gaffed deck which usually makes things easier). But if I did not play around with this deck, I probably never would have accidentally stumbled upon the little "knack" I discovered I had with a regular deck). The little "knack" that I discovered after performing for a few years allowed me to strengthen any card trick that initially required the spectator to "pick a card". Think of any card trick that you do (with a regular deck) where you have someone touch or take a card, and imagine how much stronger it can be if someone simply thought of a card. That's what I came across. So thank you, "Force of Thought", or Charles Reynolds for re-releasing this to the magic community in the early 90's. Back to the list... -Cheek to Cheek -Quintuplicate Coincidence (Scotty York) -Seemingly Impossible (basically a re-release of the Koran deck) -Open and Shut (Mark Strivings) -The World's Thinnest Deck of Cards (many will probably remember this one) -CD2000 (hahaha!! I was tempted, but I'm going to hold my opinions to myself about this one). -Mind's Eye Deck (Max Maven)... although these are picture cards (not playing cards) -Beyond ESP2... again, not playing cards, but these are wonderfully "marked" ESP cards -Bammo Card Walloper -Bammo Dekronomicon -Deception Deck -Telekinetic Card Rise -Sorted Affair -C.A.N.N.A.B.I.S. deck -Foolproof Locator Deck -and of course, last but not least... the Hooters deck of playing cards!! :-D Cheers mates! |

I noticed another thread today where folks are discussing some deck that Magic Makers is releasing, called the Deception Deck... so I wanted to comment that the Deception Deck listed in my list above is NOT this recent item that Magic Makers has come out with. I believe the Magic Makers deck is a marked deck of sorts.
Here's a description of an effect that can be done with the Deception Deck from my list: A spectator removes a random card from a blue deck, and returns it. The deck is spread revealing one red back card, which is the selection. The card is handed to the spectator and it mysteriously returns to blue. The deck is spread showing that every card is the selection - then riffled showing all the cards are different. I don't personally use this deck for the effect above as I already perform the basic effect with a regular deck (plus a couple of extra cards) and perform the same effect with a combination using a version of Chicago Opener, a wild card variation, and a color changing deck routine. But I bought it a few years ago because the effect resembled the routine I was performing, and I was curious to see someone else's approach to the effect. |

I stumbled on this topic while searching for the SUM deck to see if it had any reviews. This turned out to be kind of sad topic because it has little knowledge transfer. At least Addini and a few others rate and discuss some of the effects instead of just listing them out. A list is not a very useful thing without a little more information.
Also, I happen to be a fan of Magic Makers. Show me one item in their catalog that is a copyright infringement. I think it is time to stop bashing folks trying to make a living ... Frankly, I think it's time to stop bashing period. Dave

There's some nice gaffed deck effects in "Tricks and Treats" by Dr. Ben Braude, if you can find it.
Can't remeber the names off hand.
