That LOOK like a fuse burning (like in the cartoons & movies), but which aren't really on fire?
I've poked around a bit, talked to some pros, and no dice. Thanks for giving it a noodle! Happy New Year, All! AtPG

You could do that with some good acting and an electronic funkenring sparky device. The "fuse" actually gets shorter because it is being pulled slowly down inside the "bomb." You only pretend to light it, hold a match near the end and give it a spritz of sparks from the funkenring so it seem as if it "caught." Now you get excited and look for some place to put the "bomb" Not finding any, you appear to try to snuff out the fuse, but just give another blast of the funkenring. Repeat as needed.

Very thoughtful - thank you!
Please keep them coming, gang. Would prefer something that works on its own, to free up the hands for doing "stuff." Thanks! AtPG

It would help to know how the fuse is being used to figure out where the funky stuff could be hidden if not in your hands.

Use spellbinder's idea, and at the end of the fuse, if you don't want sparks, use those fake fires where it's just a small light shining onto a cloth that's fluttering in wind. All you would need is a small colored LED, a piece of cloth, and some way to make the cloth flutter. Maybe, as the fuse is getting pulled into the "bomb," that action alone would cause the fluttering.
