Hello Guys,
I thought you might want to see some clips of one of my original illusions. It is a "passing thru" illusion. It's done with a giant "sickle" shaped stainless steel blade. It is within this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6xMCnTTKvk Notice the apple placed in the mouth that is then cut in half at the end. Enjoy. Magically, John

Your show looks great, spot-on, and well paced.
Hans Klok could learn a few things from you about timing, and how to relate to his audience during an Illusion Show. John! Your "Passing Through" is clean and effective and amazing! Nice touch with the apple <grin>. Great and simple thinking, making pure Magic! Nice look, nice styling of costumes and props, everything goes together! You look like you know what you're doing, and doing it well! Your bird work is imaginative and exceptional, you move well, you relate to your assistants and your public well. This is how smooth and polished all professional Illusion shows should be! Very nicely cut promo-video as well. A breath of fresh-air on YouTube. Best of Luck! Magically, Walt |

If I may offer some constructive criticism here, this demo video suffers from the thing that most others do: it's too long. Far too long. Several times I was seeing the same effect repeatedly. Also, the edits are choppy. This needs to flow much more smoothly. It should be tighter with consistent audio. I suggest putting one piece of music over the entire thing. You can sweeten it with some applause sfx. If you must use audio from the actual performance, then it is best to record it through the sound board. Do not use the built in mic on your video camera as this will always sound like, well, a home video.
Most importantly, though: tighter, tighter, tighter! It's 10 minutes long! This could be cut to 1:30 (actually even less) and convey everything currently seen in it, and in a much more exciting fashion.
It's all in the reflexes.

Thanks for your advice Illucifer. I am a beginner at the editing. I will work on it more when I get some more time.

An amazing tip on editing. At least two of three camera factors should be different to properly create an edit. Three of the factors are angle, zoom, and height. You can't cut from the same angle and location. Cut from stage right zoomed in to stage left zoomed out to front and low zoomed very close. It's an issue of variety, there is no need to cut if it is only to the same shot basically. Hope you find that interesting. You do a lot of neat things, keep on thinking and pushing and working.

Overall, I was impressed! The video is choppy in some parts, not giving a sense of what the routines consist of. But some, like the sword basket and blade illusion, give a good sense of the plot. The lighting was excellent, making it easy to see the magic.
I could see cutting and putting things in, to make the video about 7 to 8 minutes, for promo purposes. Of course, you'll want a full show version, for certain agents and other trusted bookers. |

I don't know a single agent who will sit through a 7 or 8 minute video. My advice is to make it 3 minutes or less.

If he'll post it, have a look at JasonB's promo. It's very nicely done.

Great JTS, I really liked your illusion.
Could I say something?... When your assistant is putting the handcuffs to you, maybe you could be looking face to face to the audience to create clearly the image where the blade is Just in the middle. And everybody can create that image in their minds... Do you understand what I mean?... your assistant, then the blade and behind it you with one arm in each side... Anyway... great! congratulations magical greetings |

Most agents have been stung with an overproduced video, so the ones who care about client satisfaction will often ask to see the whole act. One of the agents that I work through attended one of my gigs, to see the entire act. Others made a point of watching my entire close-up set, when they hired me for strolling gigs. |

Hello,
I designed, created, & built the blade illusion myself. Thanks for the editing suggestions. It is my first attempt at editing video. I will continue to work on it.
