Where will I find the best information on developing a themed school show?

Hi Jake -
If you can find a set of the DVDs, "Magic Success Seminars", by Jim Snack, Steve Taylor, BJ Hickman, and Steve Hart, that should be of help. Those sets might be all sold out now, so you might have to seek a used set. The live lecture and also the DVDs are all about creating and marketing educational (themed) school shows. I also remember Steve Taylor covering the topic in some of his books, like "Writing Educational Shows" and "Putting the Pro in Professional". One of his other books, "Promoting Your Educational Shows" is now out of print, but is also a good resource. He might have transferred some of his material into his Canoodle Marketing add-on module about school shows (I don't recall it being covered in the core system. I have the core system, but not the add-on modules). Ken Scott or Den Dowhy might have some ideas as to resources available from KidAbra members (people who taught on school show creation, at the KidAbra conferences). Also, there are some threads on the KidAbra forum (if you're a member) that might be of help, too. - Donald

Remember if it don't fit don't force it. Not every routine has to has the 'theme' built into it. The best school/library show I've seen was a reading show and only two routines had a reading theme, they were very nicely done and it met the need.

I second Steve Taylor...
Also it is important that you either know your subject and/or research it throughoughly.. As a counselor in a middle school, we(the "royal we"..lolo) have seen the good the bad and the ugly presentors. Harris

Thanks for the link Donald. I just left Steve a voice message about "Magic For Success Seminars". He might know where I can find a used package.

You must be having fun digging up old threads, Mike.
I bought my "Magic Success Seminar" DVDs from Jim Snack back in 2007, and he was nearly sold out of them back then. I saw BJ Hickman at KIDabra this past summer, but I didn't ask him about the product. Also keep in mind that you can buy used items on the Café (because you have enough posts to access the area), on Surplus Magic Exchange, on eBay, etc. - Donald P.S. Also keep in mind that Jim Snack still sells a variety of products about school shows. Just not that DVD set (although, I think that a couple of his products -- "Reading is Magic Promo Package" & "Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Booking Schools" -- includes an audio of one of the lectures from the DVD set). http://www.success-in-magic.com/store/
